Satin or True

I like both.

Obviously I like unusual themes of names

Which if you had to, would you go with?

For a baby girl

H likes:

Hannah
Athena
Helena
Serena

I think they're all just not to my taste!

Athena or Serena.

ShiverOfSharks · 05/02/2023 09:48

They are... Both really awful. Satin is a porn star name and True sounds like some kind of Christian fundamentalism repression disaster. Your H's picks are far better.

daemonologie · 05/02/2023 09:49

True as satin is close to satan

Theresahippopotamusonourroofeatingcake · 05/02/2023 09:49

Marius and Selena or Helena sound classy. Your picks are not good!

Theresahippopotamusonourroofeatingcake · 05/02/2023 09:50

Serena sorry!

bussteward · 05/02/2023 09:51

Satin or True sounds like you’re deciding between flooring varnish finishes.

UserNameSameGame · 05/02/2023 09:51

Satin is awful. Sorry. Sounds like a stripper.

MuseThrower · 05/02/2023 09:52

Satin or True? Sound like brand names from the women’s hygiene aisle in Boots.

Your husband’s choices are nicer.

Passerillage · 05/02/2023 09:52

Athena is beautiful. Not unusual in Greece, of course, but very unusual in the UK.

Satin is definitely a stripper name, and I'm usually very open to unusual names.

With True... I'm almost on board because I like old-fashioned/pilgrim/virtue names. Others might be Faith, Honor, Temperance.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/02/2023 09:52

Helena is lovely

caringcarer · 05/02/2023 09:52

Satin and true are just words not names in my book. Serena or Helena much better.

Jelly4444 · 05/02/2023 09:53

Athena or Serena are both beautiful.

True / Satin are Kasdashian kids or strippers (sorry!!).

Cheeseandlobster · 05/02/2023 09:53

You do know your dd will have to explain away those names forever? Don't do that to her to be 'quirky'. It's just selfish

Helena is classy and lovely on the other hand

wizzywig · 05/02/2023 09:53

If you're a Kardashian, go for your choices

blippyissilly · 05/02/2023 09:54

It's a no from me

How about Gloss?

Tangerinie · 05/02/2023 09:54

I don't mind unusual names, but agree that Satin is too close to Satan and also a bit strippery. True I could live with, but I don't like it. Also, it will be sods law if she turns out to not be especially truthful.

I like Athena and Serena. I can see Hannah and Helena would be too boring for your tastes.

You could go with something unusual which isn't a pain in the arse for the person who has it

xJoy · 05/02/2023 09:55

I love marius, what about Celine, Sabrina, Sabine, Cecily, Selina.
Hannah is too mainstream with Marius but Marius and Anya works better.

With regard to Satin, no, behave! It goes with sheets. If you say Satin the word ''sheets'' is hanging in the air afterwards. Or pyjamas. Neither is resistant to smutty jokes. So just don't. Also there was an anti perspirant called satin. Just no.

True, well, short for Trudy? I would go for Verity. Marius and Verity sound ok together although Verity is a bit uptight in its vibe for me.

Deadringer · 05/02/2023 09:56

What about Thea? A sort of compromise between True and Athena.

DillDanding · 05/02/2023 09:56

Satin or True? 😂😂

Go with one of your husband’s choices.

Jelly4444 · 05/02/2023 09:56

Satina is a French name I think. It could be a compromise?

Beamur · 05/02/2023 10:00

I'm with your DH - sorry! Satin is just awful and True is very Kardashian, which wouldn't be my pick.

If you like True as a virtue name, there are others. Honor, Verity for example which are more widely used as names.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2023 10:04

Neither.

especially not "True" as it causes issues with computer databases if they aren't programmed well.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 05/02/2023 10:06

blippyissilly · 05/02/2023 09:54

How about Gloss?

Or even Matt? Grin

LightDrizzle · 05/02/2023 10:06

Helena.
