Not sure what to think. Someone close to me is considering it.

Kind of like Zeus, and Moses, it’s a big name.

Rauha · 21/01/2023 16:02

No

maddy68 · 21/01/2023 16:03

No ...

DramaAlpaca · 21/01/2023 16:04

I quite like it. It's also a nature name, there's a bird called a merlin. I've heard a lot worse.

quietnightmare · 21/01/2023 16:05

Nn Merl it sounds like a noise

BookwormButNoTime · 21/01/2023 16:06

Middle name yes. First name no.

PeachDelany · 21/01/2023 16:07

Nicknnames, Merl, Mez, Maz, M, Mella Mezza 🤔

God no!

Nudity · 21/01/2023 16:07

No. It didn’t work in the 70’s either.

Duchess379 · 21/01/2023 16:07

Erm, I'm not trying to be rude or offensive, but that's the name I'd give a dog, not a baby. Sorry 😶💕

Totalwasteofpaper · 21/01/2023 16:08

No

RightOnTheEdge · 21/01/2023 16:14

Nope, unless it's for an animal.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 21/01/2023 16:14

I like it but it’s the sort of name that a child could deeply dislike and I wouldn’t be confident enough to use.

tasht333 · 21/01/2023 16:14

NAY

Msgrieves · 21/01/2023 16:16

Works for merlin sheldrake

Fridayyesterday · 21/01/2023 16:17

I’d never heard of a bird called a merlin, only a marlin, but the RSPB lists it.

Nonetheless, I agree with the comments above.

elevenplusdilemma · 21/01/2023 16:20

Nope. Unless you're naming a cat.

CaptainCallisto · 21/01/2023 16:20

I went to school with a Merlin. He loved it, but he was from a very hippy/geek family. It was all Dungeons & Dragons, folk festivals, and Tolkien (all of which I love, BTW. I'm not being derogatory). It suited him and his lifestyle, but I'm not sure how well your average lad would get on with it...

torquewench · 21/01/2023 16:20

😂😂😂

Hobbesmanc · 21/01/2023 16:21

I like it. But I've been watching a Spanish soap where the main character. And title. Is Merli. So it's maybe just on my mind.

Ohjustboreoff · 21/01/2023 16:21

I used to work with a lady called Merlin. She was from Uganda and she'd probably be about 50 now. I always though the name was unusual but suited her.

wizzler · 21/01/2023 16:21

I like it

romdowa · 21/01/2023 16:22

I seen a Dr during the week who was called merlin. I loved it but he seemed to dislike his name quite a lot.

SirenSays · 21/01/2023 16:23

No no no too hippy dippy and it sounds like Merkin

Belladonna208 · 21/01/2023 16:29

Well, it does depend where you live.

Somewhere like Glastonbury or Totnes? No one would bat an eyelid. Inner city Sheffield? Maybe not quite such a good idea...
