Hi,
The name I want to call my daughter would be pronounced Rome-E…how do you think I should spell it to try to minimise it being pronounced wrong
Romee or Romie (other suggestions welcome)
thanks

p.s my username is not related, the name of the pram I got her is Roam 😂

CastleTower · 20/01/2023 07:38

SabbatWheel · 20/01/2023 07:39

RoamSeeker · 20/01/2023 07:41

Definitely Romy.

I'm surprised you haven't included it in the options. I've never seen anyone spell it as Romie or Romee.

Rauha · 20/01/2023 07:42

Romy

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 07:43

Romy is definitiv Rom-y ans not Roam-y

ohidoliketobe · 20/01/2023 07:43

Romy as in 'Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion'. That's definitely Row-me, not rom-e

ohidoliketobe · 20/01/2023 07:45

Sorry other way round for my last bit 🤣 perils.of typing woth an 18 month oldmo you.
For what you want it's Romy

It’s definitely Romy. Rome-ee.

Rom-ee would be spelled as Rommy or Rommie.

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 08:00

Romy Schneider has definitely always been referred to Roh-mee.

I'm surprised to hear it pronounced Roa-my

MassiveSalad22 · 20/01/2023 08:02

Rom-ee is not a name I have ever heard but if I was to spell it it would be Rommy.

Romy is nice. I’ve only known it short for Romina which is lovely too.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 20/01/2023 08:16

Romy is definitely Row-me. Have never heard it said as Raw-me (in fact I've never heard that as a name at all, but I suppose it would be spelt Rommie or Rommy as a pp said).

Go with Romy for sure, the vast majority of people will get it first try.

Duvetdweller · 20/01/2023 08:18

It’s def Romy. I know a couple and Boris Johnson’s latest child is also Romy.

Raw-me 😂 don’t think anyone said that did they? Rom-e as in rom-com

very upset to know Boris called his child this also 😂😩

Romy or
Romee

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 20/01/2023 08:39

@RoamSeeker well I have an American accent so Raw-me for me is Rom-e to you! 😆 Yes like rom-com.

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 08:56

Have never heard it said as Raw-me

Raw-me Confused That would be spelled Ramie!!?

In Germany and France Romy is definitely pronounced Rom-ee.

There's no Roam sound in Rom..?

sensechec · 20/01/2023 08:57

RoamSeeker · 20/01/2023 07:41

I thought Romy was Rom-E ?

Wouldn't that be Rommy?

It's a really lovely name. I'd have used it, except anything with an ee sound at the end was vetoed due to having an ee sound at the end of our surname.

So it's definitely Roh-mee for me (or Roam-y, which sounds the same to me). The only one I've ever met pronounces it this way.

modgepodge · 20/01/2023 09:06

I would definitely pronounce Romy rom-y, as above it might be short for Romina and it’s similar to romilly which both have rom not rome at the start. But I’ve never met or heard of a real life romy and from the above it sounds like I might be wrong!!

Romey? I’d pronounce that like you want. But if Romy SHOULD be pronounced like you want like most people think then I think you should go with that and accept you’ll occasionally have to correct people. I do with my daughters name which has only one pronunciation but is relatively unusual.

This is what I think!
Where I’ve put Romee my thinking is Rome-E rather than Rom-EE
as in the place with an extra e sound.
I really didn’t think Romy was Rome-e but seems like it is, although there is a singer is the charts now called Romy and she is definitely Rom-e 😖
I love the name enough to correct people forever haha and honestly feel like you can’t win with a lot of names some people will always shorten them, give you an unwanted nickname or pronounce wrong regardless. My name is basic and still have to correct people sometimes
