Hi,
The name I want to call my daughter would be pronounced Rome-E…how do you think I should spell it to try to minimise it being pronounced wrong
Romee or Romie (other suggestions welcome)
thanks

p.s my username is not related, the name of the pram I got her is Roam 😂

This sounds like Roamy though so doesn’t make your point ?
I watched something else yesterday about her that definitely said Roam-y too

It’s Romy. Don’t tit about with spellings and make it annoying for her for her whole life.

No I won’t, I genuinely didn’t know how best to spell it. In my head I’ve always thought of it like Rome - e so that’s why Romy was so hard for me to get my head around, I guess I’m just not very clever, but I get it now.

The ‘o’ is very very slightly shorter but it’s really hard to hear. It’s because Romy is short for Rosemary (or Rosemarie in Schneider’s case) and so the ‘o’ sound will be the same as in ‘rose’ in either language. I don’t speak German but in French it is a slightly shorter sound.

In English, because ‘rose’ has the same /əʊ/ sound as ‘nose’, Romy also has this same sound. See also Roman.

As ZoyaTheDestroyer pointed out, the pronunciation of Romy (Schneider) does not include any 'oa' sound. It is simply a longer 'o' sound. If you listen carefully you'll hear the difference.
