Elliot or Felix

I’m driving myself a bit mad - keep thinking I’ve chosen a name then going back to the drawing board. So I’m determined this is my final post and then I’ll go and live my life!

Here goes: Elliot or Felix (surname Marshall).

Worried about nicknames and keen to avoid anything mega posh, which in my mind would be like Tristan or Hugo (or maybe Sebastian).

Be kind :)

Generally I'd say if you're down to 2 wait until baby is here. One might just fit him better.

That said I know 5 Felix born last year!

He arrived 3 weeks ago :(

Elliot is a lovely name!

BasiliskStare · 16/01/2023 13:25

Felix hands down for me

picnicshicnic · 16/01/2023 13:27

Elliot, hands down. Lovely name.

I know one older gentleman named Felix. It suits him.

Other than that there is a glut of about 6 of them in my daughters preschool and everytime I hear it I just think it's a cats name.

Twizbe · 16/01/2023 13:32

In that case look at him what works best? Try calling him each name for a day and see how it feels.

It could be that neither are right and another name suggests itself.

Thesonglastslonger · 16/01/2023 13:40

Elliot, if you’re in a country that sells felix cat food.

qpmz · 16/01/2023 14:15

I prefer Felix. Elliott sounds a bit wet.

BudgetBeatrice · 16/01/2023 14:16

Felix

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2023 14:22

I much prefer Elliot. Felix is a good name too, there's plenty around now so I don't think Felix the Cat will be relevant by the time he goes to school. You can't go wrong with either - despite the weird issues posters drag to this board 🙄.

Haha! Thanks, I did chuckle at the drug addict one ;)

Elliot is okay, Felix is lovely and there would be no confusion over it’s spelling.

Chickenwing2 · 16/01/2023 14:41

Elliot is what I would name a boy if I had a baby. LOVE the name so much. (I think because of E.TGrin)

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2023 14:43

The only thing about Felix is that it is enduring a bit of a surge. And like all names that become 'of an era' it is vulnerable to becoming a lazy shorthand to denote age or attribute. I've got one of these names but fortunately Karen took the hit for us all. Elliot is a steady away name, similar in popularity over the years.

Thank you! You wouldn’t worry re him being called Elli? Think we’d use Els x

@Wombat222 I have an Elliot and I still love the name.

He's never been called Eli, I see that as a totally different name, and I think because the E sound is different, Elliot doesn't naturally lean itself to it.

We call him El/Els at home often but at school he's firmly an Elliot.

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/01/2023 15:02

Elliot

Felix is a cat's name

jackstini · 16/01/2023 15:10

Much prefer Elliot - and I know a lovely one, age 15

I can't get past the cat food association of Felix

jackstini · 16/01/2023 15:11

And his nn is El

Purplemagnolias · 16/01/2023 15:16

Definitely Elliot!

Felix is a well known cat food 🐈 in the UK

Notjusta · 16/01/2023 15:18

I have a boy with one of these names, but I like both! No help there sorry!

AnotherSpare · 16/01/2023 15:21

I don't think either of them would be shortened to anything if you're worried about nicknames.

I prefer Elliot so that would be my choice. Though Elliot Felix Marshall sounds great!
Use both?

Wrongsideofpennines · 16/01/2023 15:33

Elliott. Felix is a cat food. And I think borders on the very posh sounding names you don't like.

But try calling him one for a few days and see how it feels.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/01/2023 15:34

Elliot

Aria20 · 16/01/2023 16:05

I prefer Max to either of those or Ellis. Not keen on Elliott and Felix reminds me of a cat it is quite a strong cat association much like Rex would be for a dog!

Purplemagnolias · 16/01/2023 16:09

Felix is cat food and a cartoon cat 🐈
