Hey everyone. Quick one..

I'm due a baby in a couple of weeks and me and my husband have a name picked out. We haven't really told a lot of people the name as we don't tend to until the baby arrives and we are 100% sure.

My best friend has just got a dog and has named it the name we have picked for the baby, we haven't told her the name so it's a coincidence but would you still use the name? I'm now gutted in case I go off the name which is the only one we have agreed we both like!

Help!!

It's just one of those things.

You can't expect her to rename her pet because you had a name picked out for your baby.

I'd still use the name though.

Whats the name? I'm sure it's fine especially as it's just a friend. Most people you know won't know her dogs name anyway as they probably won't know her. Unless you don't like the name anymore I'd keep it the same.

As long as the name isn't 'Fido' I would go ahead and use it.

😂

But seriously, this! I bet your friend will love it and you can both have a giggle about the coincidence!

I know a baby Bella and a dog Bella. Not a big deal, I know which one's which.

I wouldn't use it personally, I think it would grate on me her saying 'oh we had a lovely day out with Oscar (for example)' or 'Oscar's not well, he's at the vets today' when you have a child Oscar.
Just my opinion.

This happened with 2 of my friends.
Pet friend delights in telling everyone that Baby friend named their baby after her kitten Grin.

My first child was due just before Kathy on Eastenders. Typical TV and she had her boy early and called him Ben. That was our boy name!!

My daughter was born a few days later so luckily we didn't need another boy name as we didn't have one!

I'd have to find another name.

Just use it. Your child will have the name long after the dog has gone. Inknkw plenty of families or friendship groups where this has happened one way round or the other and the dog ends up being called Sam Dog or Bella Dog etc

I named my son after my first dog

Two of my kids are named after pets. One was my Aunties dog and one our family friends cat. It was never an issue ever.

We're naming our baby the same as my friends dog! But in our defence, the dog has a standard human name and not a 'typical' dog name. I don't see the problem at all!

See how you feel when baby's born :)

My son has the same name as a certain politicians dog and its never bothered me

My grandson has the same name as my dads dog. Dog is dead now but was alive when he was born. As an aside when I told my son he’d picked the number 1 most popular name that year he cheered😁 didn’t give a shit and said he must have good taste then. Keep the name if it suits him when he arrives.

My bro named his child after our childhood pet who did have a human name too. My current dog is named after my colleague😝

My dog has the same name as me. It was the one the rescue gave her and it seemed cruel to change it when she already knew it, so now it's just a family joke that I'm such a narcissist I named my dog after myself.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless it's Luna, I know three canine Luna's and SIX feline ones, it's a bit much at this point 😂(Kidding, if it's Luna and you love it just go for it)

Wouldn’t bother me, it’s not like they’ll be spending loads of time together and your child will be here long after their pet

This happened to me and I had to choose a different name. It worked out for the best as I couldn’t imagine my daughter with the other name now!

We named ours the same as the neighbours dog. FIL did mention it was a dogs name but 🤷

Could be worse for your baby than having the same name as a dog. My DM was named - deliberately - after a horse.

I don't see why this should matter at all. Just use the name.

I once gave my dog the same name as my nephew. Not an issue.

Is it a common dog name "Luna" etc if so then keep thinking but if you look at your baby and can't imagine anything else then go with it. If it's not a commonly used dog name then just go for it.

I’d still name your child it.
your little ones friends and extended family will all know them as that name and won’t even think about the dog. Is the dog likely to be spoken about much. My friends have dogs but I can’t say I think about them much at all
