Friend has named their dog what I've chosen

Hey everyone. Quick one..

I'm due a baby in a couple of weeks and me and my husband have a name picked out. We haven't really told a lot of people the name as we don't tend to until the baby arrives and we are 100% sure.

My best friend has just got a dog and has named it the name we have picked for the baby, we haven't told her the name so it's a coincidence but would you still use the name? I'm now gutted in case I go off the name which is the only one we have agreed we both like!

Apart from you and her there will be very few people that know both. It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, just tell her you’ve been planning the name for ages and have a giggle about it.

I slightly disagree with the majority view here. I don't see any issue with you using the name, and I do agree that if you love it and didn't love any other name, you should absolutely go for it. But, if this is a really close friend then yes, maybe, chose another name. In my family, we've far too many duplicate names - unavoidably so; it has to do with who married whom, rather than anyone choosing a name already held my someone else - but we have two grandfathers with the same name, two sons with the same name, a niece and an aunt with the same name, two uncles with the same name ... and it's hard work!

My DH is called Max and we once spent an afternoon in a pub garden. 5 dog Maxs also happened to be there over the afternoon. We found it hillarious

I would change. It really doesn't matter what others think though. If you love it, that is the important thing.
