What do you think..? For a boy!

I mainly know this name from a Chalet School book - I randomly mentioned it when discussing names for the new baby with DH (I could do this all day long, he hates it , the poor thing), and he very unexpectedly liked it.

If you both like it, use it. I don’t particularly like it but it’s not awful or ridiculous.

MaverickGooseGoose · 10/01/2023 14:31

I dont like it, sounds like Chester gone wrong but if you like it go for it.

BlueChampagne · 10/01/2023 14:47

I like it a lot.

Whataretheodds · 10/01/2023 14:50

It's a Scottish version of Christopher.

I like it.

CatLoaf · 10/01/2023 14:53

I hope someone else gets the chalet school link...

I like it, but don't love it. Just makes a change for DH and I to like the same name I guess!

Also, I'm Scottish and have never come across any real life Kesters there (and only 2 in England, to be fair) - it's not like Angus, or Hamish, or even Lachlan. Pretty much unheard of I think! (Or maybe I'm just sheltered.)

I love it

curlymacv · 10/01/2023 14:58

I love Kester! Know one, but only one. I'm Scottish too. Plus you can use nickname Kit if you wanted which is cute

nancy75 · 10/01/2023 14:59

I went to school with a Kester, he would be about 47 now, I've never met or heard of another one. He had a very hippy family

QueenCarrot · 10/01/2023 15:03

Ooh, I love it. Kester Woodseaves

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 10/01/2023 15:05

I saw the thread title and thought 'Chalet School!'. Was he one of Madge's sons? He had a twin brother called Kevin. Grin

CatLoaf · 10/01/2023 15:41

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake Yes he was! And yup - Kevin got a raw deal, I reckon

Kester is definitely the superior name. I like it.

MissyB1 · 10/01/2023 15:51

Yes one of Madge’s twins! Now in the book I’m pretty sure they say it’s an old English version of Christopher, not Scottish.

Anotheanon · 10/01/2023 15:56

I used to know a Kester. He also had a posh sounding double barrelled surname. The whole thing really suited him.

CatLoaf · 10/01/2023 16:01

@MissyB1 Then it must be old English! As we know, Elinor was always right 😆

Yes, Kester Woodseaves is the weaver/ love interest in the novel Precious Bane. Lovely, good- hearted character. Never heard of one in real life

dotdotdotdash · 10/01/2023 17:47

Precious Bane is set in Shropshire so maybe from round there

Bard6817 · 10/01/2023 17:47

How do you pronounce it?

Isnt Kester (pronounced keester) slang for butt?

PermanentTemporary · 10/01/2023 17:49

I do like Kit as a nickname.

ignatiusjreilly · 10/01/2023 17:50

I recognised it as a Chalet School name! Kester was also the name of the bird expert in the St Briavel's books. Kester Bellever, I think?

smileladiesplease · 10/01/2023 18:00

Madge has twins in the chalet school Kevin snd kester

Wibbly1008 · 10/01/2023 18:02

No. For me it sounds like a larger.

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/01/2023 18:02

One of my best friends growing up was a Kester, so I have fond memories of it. We were public school kids though so used to no end of slightly unusual names!
