Thoughts on Meredith?

I really like it, not too common but not wildly out there either. My daughter struggles with “th” sounds so also considering Merida but I don’t think I like it as much. Nn maybe Miffy

I prefer Meredith to Merida (that sounds like a witch's name to me) but I know one and it always feels like a lot of name for a small person. She tends to go by Merry rather than Meredith. Miffy sounds either ridiculous or awfully posh.....Jinty, Miffy and Minty are going to pony club.....

Eatentoomanyroses · 04/01/2023 13:15

It would be a no for me because of greys anatomy

mishmased · 04/01/2023 13:18

Lovely name even with the greys anatomy link. Not sure about Miffy for nn but whatever 😂 would you consider Merry, Didi?

Theduchy · 04/01/2023 13:20

Love it with Merry as a nickname. Definitely not Miffy.

JoyPeaceSleep · 04/01/2023 13:21

I really love it. I love that Taylor Swift named her cat Meredith after Meredith Grey.

Volkswagenitalia · 04/01/2023 13:21

I really like it, but as its not that common it does make me think immediately of poor Meredith Kercher, but that's probably just me.

If you do go for it, not Miffy as a nickname.

KirstenBlest · 04/01/2023 13:41

Dreadful. It's an anglicised Welsh boy's name used as a surname.
Harsh sounding. Linked with the tragic death of Meredith Kercher.

Twoinapod · 04/01/2023 13:43

I’ve never watched greys anatomy so that’s not an issue for me. I’ve never heard any of my friends mention it either so I don’t think it’s an issue.

I don’t like the nn merry, sounds ridiculous to me, I just think of the lord of the rings. Didi is just awful.
I’ve only ever heard the nn Miffy used for Meredith so I’m quite surprised at the hate for it.

I love it!! I wanted to call my daughter Meredith but dh wasn’t keen.
I think Miffy is a bit of a stretch but love Merry as a nickname.

Rauha · 04/01/2023 13:46

I love the name Meredith. Miffy, absolutely not! But Meredith is beautiful.

🤣🤣🤣
Fair enough op but I don't think it is worse than Miffy 😂

BethDuttonsTwin · 04/01/2023 13:54

I think it’s very pretty, I have always liked it. However one of the most unpleasant people I have known called her dd it so I can’t help but associate it with her when I hear it.

I’m aware but Meredudd is the male spelling and it is pronounced differently, also much more commonly recognised as a girls name these days.

Thats interesting as I think it’s quite soft sounding. I’ve never heard of Meredith Kercher so not an issue for me. Plus lost of people have had tragic deaths, if their names were never used again a lot of names would be out of use.

Love Meredith. I have a friend with a 6 month old Meredith. Don’t like Merida or Miffy. Merry is a cute nn.

Enko · 04/01/2023 13:57

It's a beautiful name.
Even with the Merredith Kertcher association she was beautiful and her family have had so much dignity in how they have dealt with it all. So not a horrid association imo

We’ll agree to disagree on that one then 😂😂

I love Meredith

Hereforthedramaz · 04/01/2023 14:11

I knew a Meredith (admittedly male) who went by Red which I always quite liked!

Tbh Miffy sounds like a character from a twee 19 century novel or one of the secret seven. I struggle to imagine a full grown woman called Miffy!

But I like the name Meredith.

Mystery2345 · 04/01/2023 14:13

Immediately thought of that poor student who was murdered in Italy. It's a no from me.

Mystery2345 · 04/01/2023 14:14

Also why choose a name which immediately you shorten to a nickname?

AnnieFarmer · 04/01/2023 14:14

It’s lovely. Feminine and cheerful (‘merry’). Go for it.

FlounderingFruitcake · 04/01/2023 14:14

Meredith is a gorgeous name but I would think that you’re a big Grey’s Anatomy fan. I don’t really watch it either, not since I was at uni and my housemate was a fan, but regardless it’s been the titular character of a hugely famous show for something like 18 years so I don’t think you can escape it! Miffy is that cute bunny character, not a name for a human. Merida like the cartoon Brave, and it’s a brand of bikes and a city in Mexico isn’t it? I’m not massively keen but I’ve heard worse.

Workawayxx · 04/01/2023 14:16

I think it's lovely. Much much prefer Merry as a nn though to Miffy which sounds quite babyish to me.

MolesOnPoles · 04/01/2023 14:17

I like Meredith, but Miffy is dreadful. To the point of ‘are you ok?’.

Merryn is nice too.

mishmased · 04/01/2023 14:23

@Twoinapod Meredith is a fab name in my opinion. Go with Miffy if you love the nickname. I've never seen GA but I know about it and a friend loves it and her daughter's mn is Meredith.

I know about Meredith K story in 2007 (I think) but like you say there are loads of names associated with various stories and it wouldn't put me off a name that I liked. Also I like your sense of humour 👍

Whispering...How about nn Midge? 🤣🤣
