Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Callum. It sounds like someone swallowing something.

Grin

Reuben - possibly because of someone I know called this.

Morag - sorry to any Morags but I can't make myself like the name.

Jayden, Kayden, Jorden etc. Very chavy. See also Liam.
Anything with a random apostrophe or adding D at the start such as Dwayne or D'Shaun.
For girls yes double barrelled -Mae or -Rae ending is very overused by a certain type of person.

theworldhas · 02/01/2023 09:37

Sophia/Sofia. Sophie is a nice name but already slightly posh/twee. Adding on the pretentious little flick at the end is taking things too far.

NatalieIsFreezing · 02/01/2023 09:37

Btw to ppl whose names have been mentioned - I really like loads that have been posted!

Would be better if people could do one name they irrationally dislike rather than listing many many names and giving their opinion on them all... "It's overused" is a boring reason, sorry Grin

I dislike frilly girl names like Tilly, Milly, Poppy, etc.. I always imagine that the parents won't raise good strong feminist girls, which is probably unfair.

😂😂 I have a Millie and I chose it because of a character in a drama who was a really successful strong woman. Weirdly my daughter had the same opinion aged about 13 until I explained that as soon as I thought of Millie that was going to be her name because of the positive connotations I had with it. She has grown into a great young woman, a feminist. It’s interesting to see what others think but wouldn’t say. I’m not offended in the slightest like some people have said these posts are. There are so many names I don’t like, it’s miraculous that DH and I agreed twice to name the children we have.

Teddy. I can't fathom why its so popular in the UK.

For girls, I really dislike Eliza and Romy.

Nevaeh and Teddy 🤷‍♀️
I honestly can't imagine a grown up Teddy

I’m not a huge fan of it either but Teddy Sheringham doesn’t seem too affected by his name.
And yes, I know it’s not his official name before someone tried to jump on. It’s the one everybody knows him by though and the one he uses.

MumofSpud · 02/01/2023 09:47

Riley
Jayden / Kaiden etc
Names beginning with K (unless they are 'old school' like Katherine / Kevin etc)

MumofSpud · 02/01/2023 09:49

My name is on this thread aswell as both my DC (including DD's middle name!)

Supernormative · 02/01/2023 09:50

Kai. This seems to have become the trans man's name of choice. I know several girls who changed their name to Kai when they were 18 as part of their 'transition'.

@midnightfirework and @Munches attempting to write Persephone phonetically here 😁 - per-seph-o-nee

SnowlayRoundabout · 02/01/2023 09:54

Misspelt versions of normal names, hyphenated names, names with apostrophes in.

inappropriateraspberry · 02/01/2023 09:56

Anything that is a surname - Riley, Harrison, Carter...

mads2750 · 02/01/2023 09:57

Oliver, Toby, Hugo - they all all sound a bit 'round' to me when I hear them. I realise this doesn't make sense.

IPreferTheStrawberryOne · 02/01/2023 09:57

Sophia, Ava and Olivia.

There are so many of these where I live. It's put me right off them. They're like the sort of names you call your DD when you can't be bothered to think of anything else.

Anything not spelled correctly.

Who decides what the 'correct' spelling is?

harrassedmumto3 · 02/01/2023 10:09

Jeremy is a name for arseholes. I've never known a nice one.
