Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

I was just wondering how it was pronounced as I'd never heard anyone called percy-phone

How is this pronunciation? I say Percy- phone myself 😁🤣

JanusTheFirst · 02/01/2023 09:05

Kyle.

No reason I can think of but I really hate it.

SapphireSunday · 02/01/2023 09:05

I have always hated the name Mitch because it sounds like itch. However I have one the benefit of the doubt and dated him in my 20s, he broke my heart and now I hate the name even more 😂

Seeleyboo · 02/01/2023 09:07

Pretentious names like Quinton, Matilda, Eleanor, Barnaby, Rupert etc.

Not thought gone into choosing names like Jack or Chloe, Alice, Claire, Rebecca etc.

Trending names that will sound awful when you're past being a teen like Lacy, Lexi, Kylie etc.

Characters like Daenerys, Aurora

But the ones that start with D' give me the ick oh and Elijah....erghhhh demonic.

All the top 10 overused names. Those names though once nice have been drained of any charm by over use. Can’t believe people have new borns then give them the same dull run of the mill names that everyone else uses.

pornyshroudofturin · 02/01/2023 09:07

Cora. Inexplicably popular on Mumsnet, it sounds so ugly to me. Reminds me of crows making a "caw caw" noise.

And George- agree with a PP who said it was so stolid and pasty sounding

Thisbastardcomputer · 02/01/2023 09:09

Cody I hate it. Ok for a toddler but you're an adult for a much longer time.

Maraudingmarauders · 02/01/2023 09:10

Keiran - i don't think I've met one who isn't a total arse.

Chantelle / Porche etc any of those extravagant flashy but trashy names (sorry!)

HappyFannyPetrow · 02/01/2023 09:11

All the toe-curling pretentious ones (which are widely adored on MN it seems - there are too many to mention!)

Anything with a unique (incorrect) spelling that just sounds completely made up

Gemma/Jenna - just sound unpleasant

Lauren/Laura - done to death in my school in the 90s and so dull

But this is backward. They are the top 10 names because lots of people still like them and use them. I doubt many people just glance at the top 10 and think yep, that’ll do!

Hedjwitch · 02/01/2023 09:16

Agree with many on here...and two of dcs are now shamed!

Dislike Callum and the ever so twee Jamie. James is such a lovely name without being abbreviated.

wyntersuhn · 02/01/2023 09:17

Anything that ends in 'den'
Anything that ends in 'leigh'
All of the stupid made up names currently in fashion like Tinsley, Everleigh, Peyton etc
Names with 'y' inserted indiscriminently
Try hard names like Bohdi

Crazyinlove123 · 02/01/2023 09:18

Ooops my name and the kids are on here now 🤣🤣

Anything Irish, oft I find the concoctions of letters for some of the names look bizzare on a sheet of paper.

Any other nationalities you'd like to insult, or are you just purely against the Irish language?

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 02/01/2023 09:19

Emma, Emily, Alice- SO dull and boring
Rory- horrible 'roar'sound
Amelia- awful, ugly 'mealy' noise in the middle
Luna- loony
Aurora- wor wor wuh

Newpuppymummy · 02/01/2023 09:20

Demi and Kane. And any of the boys names that end in iden or yden

Well, they're clearly in the top 10 because a large volume of people like them still. So unsurprisingly, although they've lost their charm for you personally, it wouldn't appear to be the case for everyone and the data is proof of this (this news often comes as a shock to those with such snobby, short sighted outlooks on life so I hope it hasn't rocked your morning too much)

Consufed · 02/01/2023 09:22

Otto
Rupert

Tabitha
Doreen

Goawayangryman · 02/01/2023 09:23

I dislike frilly girl names like Tilly, Milly, Poppy, etc.. I always imagine that the parents won't raise good strong feminist girls, which is probably unfair.

And the most ignorant post of the thread goes to...

Irish is a language, not a bizarre concoctions of letters.

Violetparis · 02/01/2023 09:25

Caitlin, Ryan and Matthew

Cattenberg · 02/01/2023 09:27

Mildred shudder. A mixture of dread and mildew.

PurBal · 02/01/2023 09:27

Quinn. Sounds like quim. Makes me feel sick. It’s the first thing I thought of when we were introduced and it’s also how I remember the poor child’s name. “So-and-sos children are Xyz (such an ordinary name) and vulva”.

CatNutsRoastingByAnOpenFire · 02/01/2023 09:27

Jayden, Jaxon, wines and for some reason, Holly.
If you can't decide, please don't shove half of a couple of names together and make it into one, and if you can't spell it, ask someone who can for help. If you have a drink problem don't dump it on your baby.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/01/2023 09:27

Jaxxon - it’s just stupid.
