Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Oh yes…. Nevaeh. Where the child will always have to explain, “Neveah. It’s Heaven spelt backwards”.

Bethany. I just find that name nauseating! 🤢

Phoebe.

I know a lot of people on here seem to love it, but it just makes me think of the word feeble.

To me, written down, it looks as though it should be pronounced: Faux-eh-be.

Anskl · 10/03/2023 23:37

Nevaeh... does't make me think of heaven, more Nivea cream.

I dislike Harper, but also Piper which (to me at least) is the same sort of name, and even more awful.
I just imagine a little girl playing a huge set of bagpipes; either that or doing plumbing, both of which activities should really be done by a manly man.
At least playing the harp is slightly better.

I’d put Parker in with those. I’ve heard it for both boys and girls but it’s not a name I could love. Fine for a surname though.

Reddahlias · 11/03/2023 18:07

I agree about Phoebe - it looks and sounds so feeble and weak. It also doesn't travel well internationally

Oh dear, I have read up to page 20 and mine, my DH and 5 out of our 6 DC are listen on here 😂

I agree with anything double barrelled with "May" or "Mae", also Gemma, Stacey, Hugo, Andrew, Richard, Margot, Greta, Warren and names like Brayden/Kayden etc.

xprincessxjanetx · 11/03/2023 22:38

Listed not listen*

I've never met a Parker, but yes, that's hideous.

WakyWally · 29/10/2023 21:05

I dont have a problem with Warren as a name.

Marcipex · 29/10/2023 21:15

Girl- Samantha

Boy- Junior and Sonny. Just awful.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 29/10/2023 22:25

Agatha, Ethel, Mildred and similar.
Trevor, Horace, Percy, Humphrey etc

TheaBrandt · 30/10/2023 06:25

I would prefer those to top 10 names. Just quite bored of hearing the same few names (Eve variant names /Grace/Isabel variant names/Lily etc) anything that’s not those is quite refreshing.

Longdarkcloud · 30/10/2023 09:00

I think there is a difference between names that I hate — ie harsh, ugly sounding names and that are awkward to say, such as Agatha and Horace,
and names I dislike usually because they are cringeworthy or have bad associations. With many of the latter names it is a purely subjective dislike which I own.

LindorDoubleChoc · 30/10/2023 09:02

Neveah.

Cooper.

marshmallowfinder · 30/10/2023 09:09

Amelia is just the most hideous name. The godawful 'mealy' noise in the middle of it (uh MEALY uh) and the medical meaning of it (absence of limbs) render it so unpleasant. I find it unbelievable that it's so popular. A friend of mine called her daughter it and her nickname is 'mealy'. 🤢 So unfair.

DemBonesDemBones · 30/10/2023 09:09

Agreed, Amelia is just horrible.

marshmallowfinder · 30/10/2023 09:10

choochooandspook · 08/03/2023 20:02

Ada or Ida sound like old women in pinnies gossiping in the street, reminds me of a Les Dawson comedy sketch.

Yes! Also Lydia, Mave, Olive, Mabel and Edith. So overrated.

cushhhonhed · 30/10/2023 09:20

For me it's the names that have become so overused they've become bland. Names like Olivia, Sophia, Emma, Elizabeth, George, Charlie, William and Alfie. I do feel a bit mean saying this, because well it is a bit mean, as naming a child is so personal, but people on MN can be so rude and snobby about more unusual names (or ones that are foreign that they just aren't familiar with) but actually it's the 10 a penny names that I'm not keen on as they lack imagination.
