Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Otis. Just makes me think of the company that makes lifts for buildings. Whenever I hear it I assume the kid was conceived in a lift 😆

Otis? Isn't that an OTC worm treatment?🤣🤣🤣

Olive is the world’s ugliest name with zero redeeming features.

I always think of the woman from On the Buses.

I have always really loathed the name Emily

So have I, along with Amelia, Amy, Amelie, names like that.

Partyandbullshit · 25/02/2023 01:22

Rory - because I can’t get my tongue around the r’s. I sound like a toddler! Also sounds like roar-y (which, as it happens, every Rory I’ve ever met has been).

Nicknames as names. Tacky.

I LOVE Agatha. It looks ugly but I love the way it rolls around the mouth and off the tongue. It’s a word that forces you to slow down your speech. You can’t rush Agatha.

Elsie. It sounds like a chemical toilet.

Strawberrydelight78 · 25/02/2023 08:20

Just what I was going to say. Like Olivia though. I know an Alivia which is odd. That's another one I hate. Changing the spellings

ThatshallotBaby · 02/01/2023 00:11

Megan. Don’t know why. It’s a perfectly nice name. Bethany the same.

🙄

SunnyDaysAheadGang · 25/02/2023 08:58

I dislike adults who call other people "try hard" - they sound like teenaged bullies.

MikeLitoriss · 25/02/2023 09:13

Otillie (just irrationally hate it and don't know why!)
Esme
Bailey (for boy or girl)

Ophelia

I hate deeming things ‘pretentious’ but it is. It makes me cringe every time it is discussed on here

a horrible namesake for a DD and a telltale sign that they haven’t read hamlet

This, this, a thousand times this. As an English teacher if I hear of someone I know naming their baby this I just want to shout "BUT SHE DROWNS!!!"

On my "Threads I'm On", your post showed up but with the quoted bit hidden. I just knew it was going to be Ophelia!

My daughter is named after Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter and my son Edmund after King Lear. Ophelia is a lovely name - I considered it and as an English teacher I know she drowns!

Reddahlias · 25/02/2023 14:51

Alfie, Archie, Albie, Teddie and similar babyish cutesy names.

IndiganDop · 25/02/2023 14:53

Arabella.

Stuck up, princessy, pony club, mummy drives a Range type of name.

Comedycook · 25/02/2023 14:57

Oscar

Absolutely can't stand it. I imagine for most people it's pretty inoffensive. It's just usually the name I hear coming out of the mouths of middle class, weak willed mothers ineffectually telling little Oscar to stop misbehaving

pjmasksitsthepjmasks · 25/02/2023 15:13

Oscar
Alfie
Archie

Simplepink · 25/02/2023 15:17

Ooh got right through the whole thread and my boys name still not been mentioned (and it’s fairly common!)

Simplepink · 25/02/2023 15:18

I’m slightly disappointed 😂
