Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Ollie

KiwiMum2023 · 17/01/2023 20:44

Hugo, Milo - generic dull posho boys names

Jayden/Tyreese etc - grim and dodgy

Ava/Sophia - predictable and boring

Pinkdafodils · 17/01/2023 22:12

Any of the dull overused names currently - Oliver, Jack, Alfie, Ellie, Eva etc they've become so ubiquitous.

rattlinbog · 17/01/2023 22:32

Theodore
Poppy

Balonz

Freya reminds me of cheese. I do actually love cheese but still not the name.

Carryonmarion · 18/01/2023 13:17

Demi, Paige, Chelsea. Makes me think of young women who want to be WAGS and go on holiday to Dubai

Male royal family names especially Harry, William & George

Met an Ishbell last night, just why would you look at a new baby and think she looks like an Ishbell. Before anyone starts I don't like my middle name.

In fairness, I think the same about George, and quite a few parents look into the crumpled little face of their newborn and decide he’s a George. Baffling. Or subjective taste.

I like Ishbel. Also the full name of Tish, one of the cool girls in the Trebizon series.

Olive is the world’s ugliest name with zero redeeming features.

FixItUpChappie · 24/02/2023 00:34

Off the top of my head....

Tabitha, Violet, Nevaeh

Callum, Kaiden and Jayden - also as a poster up thread said any name + "Junior"

pastypieface · 24/02/2023 00:45

Anything overused like Olivia, Grace, Emma. Don't like Millie much as it sounds wet. For boys I'm not keen on Albert, Andrew or Peter. I don't hate any of them they're all just a bit boring.

Jadviga · 24/02/2023 02:23

I can't stand the recent trend of diminutives used instead of an actual name. Like Alfie, Archie, Albie, Freddie... Eurgh. But I'll probably be the minority here.

Also dislike extremely classic names like John, Jack (every movie /series lead is called John/Jack), Peter, William, etc. They've been so overused across the centuries that they've lost any sense of individuality. (that's just my opinion, obviously a lot of people will have a different perception of these names).

I’ve never liked the name Martha, I find it a very unappealing name. For male names I think Bruce is a very ugly name.

You obviously feel strongly about it to post twice about the same name on one thread!

Lostinadream24 · 24/02/2023 08:52

My child has that 3 letter name that everyone on here hates, but I and my child both love.

Aurora
I just don't like the sound of it , or how it feels saying it.

Not at all. I haven’t come back to this thread in a while and read the last twenty posts or so in one go this morning. A Martha has recently been named in my family so I particularly noticed the posts about it. No snark intended and genuine apologies if I have embarrassed you. All the best.

Just can't stand them

Ditto here.

Thank you for the apology. I didn’t realise it was the same thread as I’d commented on previously as it seemed to pop up from nowhere. At least it shows I genuinely don’t like the name Martha but I hope your relative does like it. 🙂

Bohdi, Kaiden, Jayden, Kai, Jaxon, Reece, Tyler, Brandon, Brayden, River

Nevaeh, Lacey, Summer, Britney, Brianna, Chantelle, Chelsea, Anything-Mae/Rae, Elodie, Paige

I'm not keen on this American-style fad of using surnames as first names, eg Cooper. And also names like Hayden, Jayden, Cory etc. And Chanelle.
