Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Oh yes, and Shannon

AlwaysGinPlease · 02/01/2023 21:04

I simply cannot abide Freya. Lily/Lillie . Also anything with -Mae

Boys - David, Jason, Dylan, also hate Bodhi and Jude.

Lots more but those most of all.

AndNowForSomethingCompletelyDifferent · 02/01/2023 21:05

Vintage names that just seem too try hard. Mavis, Doris, Ethel, Hilda, Maud, Agatha, Agnes. Just so ugly.

Myla, Mila, just made up noises.

Cutesy names like Daisy, Millie, Betsy, Maisie, Tilly, Hattie.

DesteB · 02/01/2023 21:08

Andrea just awful, Marnie, Megan and for a boy Karl. Apologies to all those readers with these names.

DesteB · 02/01/2023 21:09

Chloé is another name I can't take to.

girljulian · 02/01/2023 21:10

I have always really loathed the name Emily

barelyfunctional · 02/01/2023 21:11

Paige

RambamThankyouMam · 02/01/2023 21:11

Callum - so ugly.

Tatum - ditto.

DemBonesDemBones · 02/01/2023 21:11

@ladygindiva do you mean the only one spelled that way?

Cattenberg · 02/01/2023 21:19

I find it interesting that different names remind different people of swallowing/throat-clearing etc.

For me it’s Ralph.

B1993 · 02/01/2023 21:25

I am in agreement with Kayden. I dislike Patrick and Todd, too.

I don’t like Sasha, Charmaine, Chantelle, Porsha etc. for girls.

It’s the really popular ones for me. Why call your kid Jack or Oliver or Olivia or Isabel? You’re not discerning them from the crowd at all, and they’ll be forever saddled with needing a letter or a surname as well. Bizarre.

I also dislike George and Henry - really insipid.

I was one of 7 girls with my name at school. I’ve actually always been grateful to my parents for picking a pretty, classic name as I had a slightly awkward old English maiden name that I was forever spelling out. As for being discerned from the crowd, I’d hope I’m more memorable than just my name!

We gave our daughter a common but classic name, I’ve liked it for 20+ years and again she’ll never be painstakingly spelling it out for people (unlike 2022’s poor Ottillies)

Hunter2501 · 02/01/2023 21:43

I’ve never met a nice Angel, they are always the opposite of angelic. Frankie (both boy and girl) are also horrors. Nevaeh is the absolute worse - cannot abide that one!
Really can’t abide Ellie-Mae, Lily-Mae, Lexie-Rae type names - pretentious and precocious.
My irrational hate it for Eloise, I have no reason I just can’t stand it

DidyouNO · 02/01/2023 21:48

Charlotte. Because I was head butted by one as a kid Confused

weebarra · 02/01/2023 21:50

Mine and DD's name have both come up.
I don't think there are any names I really dislike.
Maybe Mavis?

Jifmicroliquid · 02/01/2023 22:12

I really dislike the name Kirsty. I think it sounds frumpy.
Also not keen on the -May/Mae trend.
Sienna sounds chavvy and I have no idea why it’s so popular.

Hadtochangeforthisone · 02/01/2023 22:13

Sharon (so sorry lovely Sharon of my youth .. I'm a boomer so add Lorraine and Karen to that - sorry Karen (don't know any Loraine's) I blame our parents 🤣🤣🤣

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/01/2023 22:21

I think some pp must experience some form of synaesthesia related to names. It is not normal to have the visceral reactions that they describe.

ladygindiva · 02/01/2023 22:28

DemBonesDemBones · 02/01/2023 21:11

@ladygindiva do you mean the only one spelled that way?

Nope, the only Isabel spelt any way.

Oops, my name has been mentioned (I’ve always loved it though) and one of my children’s names. My other DC is in the clear…so far!
