Emmett- to similar ?

Really loving this name for a boy but our surname is Mitchell and I’m aware Emmett can be pronounced both Em-muht and Em-mit and now I’m worrying that it runs into our surname too much. Am I overthinking? There would be a middle name too (that we haven’t decided yet) so there is something to break it up but obviously middle names aren’t always used

Generally people don't say the full name a great deal - but, if by some chance, you did have another called Emmett at school then your boys Sur name would be used all the time suddenly to differentiate between. This was something I hadn't hugely thought of with ours but he literally calls himself his full name all the time (3.5) due to there being another with the same first name - just one to ponder, but it isn't the most common name so likely non issue

Thank you everyone for your help. Emmett is still my favourite and after saying it a lot in our accent it doesn’t run into our surname. I bet after all this we have a girl and all the stress didn’t matter at all

Emmett Mitchell is nice but doesn't flow very well. I know a Dennis Seagrove (2 S sounds) and a Tom Marsh (same thing)

Firebird83 · 31/12/2022 12:59

I think it’s fine. I also like the similar Everett.

BillLius · 31/12/2022 13:05

Derek.

Other suggestion from DH, Ansel?

OP posts:
Maireas · 31/12/2022 13:23

I've come across Ansel before, I think it's a traditional Jewish name? It's very nice and also unusual.

Maireas · 31/12/2022 13:26

Actually, I've just looked it up, it seems to be old German or Dutch and related to Anselm.
Now that's a nice name!
Also, do you like Ambrose?

Not a big fan of Ambrose really but thank you for the suggestion.

Fair enough. Ansel or Anselm are both good names.

Thank you :).

Now I’m worried that Ansel sounds a bit rhymey with our last name🙈

No! It's fine. As are your other suggestions.
I teach a boy called Irvin, which I think is nice and unusual. (We have an Archie Mitchell, which I don't think works too well!)

Irvin is lovely, I also love Ivan but DH isn’t a fan

I thought I’d update you all and let you know we’ve decided that if we have a boy he will be Ansel Gideon, DS1 is Linus Jeremy and we like that they have the same letters and syllables in their first and middle names. Thank you everyone for your help.

I don't like it with the surname. I feel it sounds clumsy with the two 'mit' sounds. Sorry.
