Emmett- to similar ?

Really loving this name for a boy but our surname is Mitchell and I’m aware Emmett can be pronounced both Em-muht and Em-mit and now I’m worrying that it runs into our surname too much. Am I overthinking? There would be a middle name too (that we haven’t decided yet) so there is something to break it up but obviously middle names aren’t always used

I think it sounds perfectly fine with the surname. Great name!

3ormorecharacters · 30/12/2022 21:34

I think it's fine. As others have said the first syllable is emphasised in Emmett so I don't think the Mit-Mit is a big issue. I think it flows quite nicely actually. And people don't often get called by both names in practice.

I love the name. It sounds fine with your last name. I would pronounce it with a kind of really short/dropped 'eh' or 'uh' sound for the second syllable if that makes any sense? With the emphasis on the first syllable. Like EHm't? Definitely not Emmitt.

That’s how I pronounce it too

Just gone back to the drawing board and another option we both like is Asa. Any thoughts on that?

Asa is a great name - goes well with Mitchell.

lottie198 · 30/12/2022 22:20

What about Emerson?
We liked this when I was pregnant. It was nearly his name.

fairycupcakes · 30/12/2022 22:26

Everett could be an option @vintagemom x

Asa Mitchell is a totally amazing name!

pizzazze · 30/12/2022 22:37

100% it runs together badly. I wouldn't use Emmet with Mitchell unless I was desperate. Asa much more successful

IET · 30/12/2022 22:37

I prefer Emmett slightly, but Asa is a good name too

birchtree23 · 30/12/2022 22:43

Reminds me of Hyacinth Buckets neighbours who were Elizabeth and Emmett 😂😂

OhDN · 30/12/2022 22:49

I suppose it depends where you are. Where I am it’s the emmutt (uh) sound like I think you’re describing and here there would be absolutely no issue with the sounds of the two names together. If it’s the same where you are, go for it!

Supernormative · 30/12/2022 22:53

Isn't Asa a girl's name?

No, Asa was a man in the bible. It is unisex now though.

I don’t mind Everett but I don’t love it. Thank you for suggestions though!

Yep that’s the sound I was trying to describe. I just described it very badly😂

I'm from the North and know that Emmet/ant/tourist association.

AChristmasCaro · 30/12/2022 23:02

Emmett and Asa are both great names.

vintagemom · 30/12/2022 23:20

I’ve just watched videos of people saying Emmett😂 and it’s convinced me that actually it’s fine. The way I, and most people, pronounce it doesn’t clash with our surname. I think we will probably go for it

DH has suggested Fabian, which I’m now really liking

I much prefer Fabian with your surname.

custardbear · 31/12/2022 03:38

Asa is a nice name, as is Fabian.
There's also Emerson which is similar to Emmett or Phelim, Phelen or Faelen sound like Fabian too

Enko · 31/12/2022 08:08

Emmett is a great name
I dont think the surname is a problem.

I also love Cedric.

Not personally a fan of Asa or Fabian but neither would make me go wtf.

TeddyTrucks · 31/12/2022 08:19

I don't think it's that bad at all tbh. There's a woman on YouTube from the US whose surname is Wadsworth and she's called two of her sons Wentworth and Wolfgang, so on that basis yours seems absolutely fine!

Maireas · 31/12/2022 08:40

Fabian is nice, not common but not strange!
