Caspar?

Hogging the baby names board right now as have another one open- sorry! Wondered
a) people’s thoughts on Caspar
b) if they would actually use it
I find lots of names are mentioned a lot on mumsnet that people wouldn’t/don’t really use, so wondering if Caspar is theoretically nice but you would never go for it!

I know 2 people with sons called Caspar. I met them when one son was 2 and one was 3. Only met them a few months apart too. Completely different social circles. I remember thinking LOL what a daft name!!! Within a few months however, it really grew on me.

Like Hilda, Mabel, and Elsie. People calling their little girls these names I thought were being ridiculous (some 2 to 3 years ago.) Now I think they're gorgeous names!!!

But yeah @wishing3 'Caspar' is as cute a f*ck! Grin

I live Kaspar and Jasper. There are several in my extended family. Who cares about the ghost? No one his age will have heard of the ghost!

I think it's inevitable it would get a lot of 'friendly ghost' comments but that doesn't make it unusable. I know a Danish Kasper and a Polish Kacper so it seems less ghostly to me now.

I agree with a few people that the first thing SOME may think is GHOST. I did! But as soon as people get to know the child, they forget the ghost.

When you meet a Brian, do you think SNAIL, or do you think 'shaggy dog' when you hear Dougal, or DOLL when someone is called Sindy, or beef burger when someone is called ANGUS, or fast food when someone says their name is McDonald? No of course not! Many names have a link to something.

None of those are as entrenched as Caspar the friendly ghost!

I think of the goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel first. Caspar is a cool name.

Yeah people are mentioning the ghost here but a) the ghost was first a little boy called Caspar b) kids these days have never heard of that film/cartoon and c) it's not even a bad or offensive reference.

I have a Caspar! I vetoed it initially because of the ghost then I thought I wouldn't avoid Thomas because of the Tank Engine or Rupert because of the bear. So glad I went for it!

Yes I wouldnt really be worried about other kids’ reactions but I guess I’d just like people of my generation to think it was a nice name, not with any comedy element to it.
