Help!

We are expecting our second child, Irish living in London. Our daughter has an Irish name and we are keen to give DS one too. But we can't find a single one we like or haven't had to rule out. I've googled and googled, need some serious inspiration!

Can't use the below for various reasons:
Sean
Oisin
Niall
Seamus
Conor
Liam
Ruairi
Fionn

Considering but not loving:
Tadhg
Conan

This thread has started to go this way 😂

WonderWoop · 28/11/2022 18:29

I'm not sure I'm any closer to a name but you all have made me laugh 😂

@WonderWoop
You certainly have been given a huge choice now.
No excuses ! 😂

No more grammar debates? Is Daidi in the cistin yet?

I think we have a new shortlist at least:

Tadhg (still there, but do worry it's 'too much')

Dillon (still don't love the Irish spelling but like the name)

Eoghan (DH (English) says people will pronounce it Og-an however)

Daire / Dara (Is the first/original way too much here in England?) Will be our second (and last!) child so Dara could resonate but feels a little less Irish. Have a Darragh in wider family so was avoiding that

DH has ruled out Eanna (sigh)

There's talk of Tuiseal Ginneadeach on another thread if you're desperate for a grammar fix @WonderWoop

WonderWoop · 30/11/2022 23:57

A step too far @JaneJeffer

All great names @WonderWoop
That was pretty much our list, although not Dillon as I didn't know it as an Irish name.
We also had Cilian and Lorcan. Went with Lorcan, still love it now 😍

Wouldn't Deireadh make a great name?

If uou like Dillon how about Direan?

Mummytobe333 · 01/12/2022 15:24

I love the name Connell for a boy 😊 was our name if we had a boy (had a girl!)

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/12/2022 15:26

I'd say the name Connell will be shooting up the charts alright, after everyone swooning over that Connell and his chain.

I know an English Eoghan and he doesn't seem to have issues with pronunciation.

We ruled out Odhran for similar reasons though. Oran I would have loved but DH ruled it out.

We also struggled with an Irish boys name. We went for Aodhan.

WonderWoop · 03/12/2022 20:04

@RoyKeaneisRight do you know what, I like Lorcan. Cute meaning as well and pronunciation reasonable. I will see what DH thinks

WonderWoop · 03/12/2022 20:07

@Mummyeyes don't love Direan, sorry. I suppose there's Doire

@nowaynotnownotever that's reassuring about your Eoghan. I think it's from when Eoghan Quigg was on the X-factor that DH took issue to it. Yes honestly (ridiculous). I'm keeping it on the list though

Irish girls names feel so much easier!

Gingerninja4 · 03/12/2022 20:10

Riordan means King's poet , But people do struggle with pronunciation

But then also gives the child option to shorten when teenage

laurwalsh · 03/12/2022 20:21

I was the same, I love so many Irish girl names but not the boys as much. Liam is nice though

Klow15 · 10/01/2023 13:44

My sons are called Cillian & Shea, my partner is Malachy - he’s Irish of course.
i’m expecting baby number 3 & we’re struggling for another Irish boys name😭

LadyEloise1 · 10/01/2023 16:33

@Klow15 Would you consider
Tarlach ?
Breifne ?
