Using a name family don't like

Has anyone used a name family didn't like? I really like a name Beau. Its unusual so I was on the fence until I've met two children named the same. Baby would have a traditional middle name but I can't find anything else I like.

Family members have said they didn't like it straight away and OH doesn't hate it (he didn't name the last two 🤣). Help!

@TisforTucan , they are of Welsh origin but they have been anglicised in a way that makes them look like men's names.
Bronwen is the Welsh word for weasel, heulwen is the Welsh word for sunshine.

The name that's ridiculous is Olwyn. It's a name that has been used, but it's a misspelling of Olwen. Olwyn is the word for wheel.

The -wyn bit is masculine from gwyn, the -wen is feminine and from gwen.

If you met someone whose name was "Sexy" you'd probably smirk at that, at least in private. Don't pretend otherwise.

Right…is sexy a gendered word then?? I don’t think so. I’d find sexy a bit odd yes, as it’s a very specific type of word. But would I laugh at a girl called Handsome? No. Or a boy called Beauty? No.

They have not been anglicised. They are Welsh names that are the masculine variant. Like Olive and Oliver. Bronwyn is male, Bronwen is female. It also doesn’t mean weasel, it means Blessed or fair Breast or hill. The word bronwen also means weasel but it’s not what the name means. Gwencï is the more usual word for weasel.
Do you even speak any welsh?

Can I leave my own thread 😂 Now arguing where Welsh names came from and being Welsh it's annoying me 😂

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bronwyn is a Welsh feminine given name, a variant of the mostly feminine version Bronwen/Branwen, literally meaning "White Raven (or Crow)" or, abstractly, "White Breast" (from bran, raven, and bron ("breast") and [g]wen ("white, fair, blessed)".[1] Because the suffix -wyn is grammatically masculine in Welsh, Bronwyn is a spelling generally only used for female names in the English-speaking world outside Wales. The name may refer to:

Yes, I speak Welsh fluently.

Beau just sounds so wet and soppy for a boy.

Zombie thread @SoShallINever - I'm sure the OP doesn't need your views any more.

From the US here, Beau is not a weird name, I've met more than one of both genders

I can't speak for everyone's family dynamic but in mine, you're allowed to say your opinion, once maybe twice if your a grandparent, then you need to respect Mom and Dad because it's their baby! You don't have to like the name to love the baby lol

People regret obligation or honor names all the time, but I've rarely met someone who regrets a name they just love
