Our baby girl is due on the 4/11. We have decided on Luna for our baby girl, I looked at the meaning of this name and I love it. Any other name beginning with L would be appreciated.

I considered it but DH vetoed as it was ‘too Harry Potter’ 🤷‍♀️🤣

Fivebeanchilli · 31/10/2022 19:30

I really like it and know several. It's pretty and works in lots of languages (a couple of the Lunas I know have parents with different first languages). However you will now get several hundred posters telling you it is a dog's name.

itsnotdeep · 31/10/2022 19:30

I only know dogs called Luna.

magicstar1 · 31/10/2022 19:30

It’s a lovely name, but has been widely used for huskies and German Shepherds over the past few years. I know of loads.

Nimo12 · 31/10/2022 19:31

It's my dog's name

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/10/2022 19:31

I know one and she’s gorgeous. I’d consider it but I’ve heard it’s quite popular with babies now.

I think it’s lovely but also have strong doggy associations with it too.

It’s one of the most common dog names. The other is Bella.

I actually love the name. But the dog thing ruins it.

My cat was called Luna. How about Lyra?

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 31/10/2022 19:34

It's lovely. It's also the name of every office puppy on LinkedIn!

ShouldntHaveBeenSoHasty · 31/10/2022 19:34

There’s a couple of little Lunas at dc’s school. I think it’s a really pretty name.

AuntieStella · 31/10/2022 19:34

If you call "Luna" in a park, you'll be overrun with cockerpoos and dachshunds.

It's a name people like, but give to their pets rather than their DDs because od the silent -tic

Others to consider:
Lula, Lila, Lyra, Lacey, Linda, Lynne, Linette, Lara, Laura, Lorna

And also if you love the meaning and would compromise on the letter: Selna, Artemis, Diana, Nokomis

Kanaloa · 31/10/2022 19:35

I don’t like it - it’s very associated with Harry Potter to me and I’m just not keen on the sound of it. I don’t think it’s awful though. I do know one preschooler Luna and it’s fine, she wears it well.

Lwren · 31/10/2022 19:37

Love it.
If I ever have twin girls I'm calling them lola and Luna and everyone can say "they're pet names" as much as they like.
I knew a dog called Vince once, it's not like they're getting named deefa and rover.

ShesThunderstorms · 31/10/2022 19:38

I really love it. I'm a bit biased though as I am a huge Harry Potter fan.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 31/10/2022 19:40

It is a pretty name but I wouldn’t be sure about using it because of the scope for teasing with the historical association to lunacy, werewolves, monthly cycles. ‘Loony Luna’ in Harry Potter. JK Rowling used it for a reason!

Carole18 · 31/10/2022 19:41

My friend is called Louise and it gets shortened to Lou so that will probably happen if you decide to christen your baby Luna.

I really like the name Lara (reminds me of the Lara from Dr Zhivago).

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/10/2022 19:41

It's screams HP fan

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2022 19:41

My niece is Luna and my SIL says the joke about calling her name in the park is true. Several dogs come running. I know 4 canine Lunas, two cats and a budgie! It is a very popular pet name.

OooooSweetVampireOMine · 31/10/2022 19:41

It's a dog's name.

nildesparandum · 31/10/2022 19:47

As long as your surname is not Tick.
