We still don't know what we're having yet. These are the boys names on our list. Which one would you pick? I'd love to hear your comments on all the names and also if there are associations (good or bad) so we are aware of everything:

Max
Finn
Flynn
Elliott
Caspar
George
Dylan
Otto
Edward
Aidan
Edmund
Colin

Finlay
Maximilian

I'm not sure whether Flynn is cool or ridiculous. What do you say? My husband's idea and I hated it at first but it has really grown on me since. Finn seems more boring in comparison but also more classic. Sometimes I think Finlay works better but I heard in the US it is sometimes seen as girly? I just don't know whether it will age as well.

I think we will just use Max or Finn and not the longer versions but not 100% sure yet.

As for Elliott I'm a bit worried about spelling issues.

I don't know if you know the feeling but with girls names there is a new one I like almost every day whereas with boys names the list is more consistent. On the one hand it makes me feel more secure that with the boys list we won't have any regrets whereas with the girls names I often love a name a certain day and don't care much for it anymore two weeks later (we did manage to come up with a few names I always seem to love, though). But it's exciting to search for girls names too as there are so many that appeal to me!

Edward was on my list , I love it and I love the huge choice of shortenings - Bed, Ted, Teddy, Eddy, Ed etc. I see you have Edmund as well, I like that too. I recently met an Edwin which I think I like even more!
( I never got to use Edward , no ds, just 3 DDS)

ladygindiva · 24/10/2022 19:35

Not sure where Bed came from, I think I meant to type Ned 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 24/10/2022 19:36

Out of the ones you’ve posted I like Dylan. I’ve known a few lovely Dylan’s.

ladygindiva · 24/10/2022 19:36

And yes I agree, my boys name choices haven't changed since I was about 20, but girls names come and go, which made naming difficult!

Medoca · 24/10/2022 19:37

Colin

ofwarren · 24/10/2022 19:39

Colin! Not heard that for years!
Definitely due a come back.

andrea4321 · 24/10/2022 19:39

Max - nice
Finn - okay
Flynn - I'm on the fence too, it sounds quite cool, but also a bit like 'Lynne'?
Elliott - I'd spell it Elliot
Caspar - okay
George - boring
Dylan - dislike
Otto - fashionable right now but I really don't like it, a bit wannabe cool but it's such an uncool name (for me)
Edward - boring
Aidan - nice
Edmund - boring, old-fashioned
Colin - nice

Finlay - bit overdone
Maximilian - nice

Tinytortilla · 24/10/2022 19:40

Otto is my favourite ever name!

JamSandle · 24/10/2022 19:40

Max

andrea4321 · 24/10/2022 19:40

My favourite would be Colin or Aidan - nice solid names that are a bit more interesting than some of the other ones.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 24/10/2022 19:41

Elliot or Elliott spelling is irrelevant the name is lovely

MissyB1 · 24/10/2022 19:42

Colin
Elliott
Otto

in that order.

WalkingOnSonshine · 24/10/2022 19:42

I had Max, Finn, Dylan, Aidan and Elliott on my list for DS.

We went with Lachlan.

ancientgran · 24/10/2022 19:43

I'm probably not your target audience but I think Max and George are my favourites. None of them are bad though. You might know when you meet him.

bravotango · 24/10/2022 19:50

Your list is very similar to mine! I like Max, George and Dylan. Not sure about Flynn.

Adca · 24/10/2022 20:01

Max, Finn, Flynn or Elliott are all lovely ☺️

Rauha · 24/10/2022 20:04

Caspar

Narwhalsh · 24/10/2022 20:06

I am surprised about the popularity of Colin in this thread! I had relegated that name to the realms of Derek, Kevin and Gary 😆

Max is nice but Maximilian is a bit much (if you are worried about spelling this would be my one to worry about!)

Finlay shortens to Fin easy enough and you’ve got the option of the ‘full’ name when he’s in trouble! But again spelling-Findlay, Finlay, Finley. Definitely a boys name to me, I’ve never heard of a girl with that name

SuperfastJellyfish · 24/10/2022 20:10

Baby Colin?!!! 😳 No way. Otto is a great name

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 24/10/2022 20:21

I'd say Max, Finn, Elliot and George are all very very popular. Not that that's a bad thing - just FYI. I know several Finns under 5. Edward is nice but again popular. I really like Caspar! Dylan is nice too. Otto is definitely the best name on the list imo. Colin is dreadful. I don't like Aidan as I knew a really horrible one once but that's my issue - it's a perfectly decent name really but I struggle with it.

I'm surprised too. I can't imagine a baby Colin at one of my baby classes...

I like Caspar from the list.

CastleTower · 24/10/2022 21:26

I really like Aidan, it's on our list.

I know a sweet baby Caspar, though I think he might be with a K as he's German.

emmathedilemma · 24/10/2022 21:36

I can probably guarantee if you use Colin he’ll be the only one in his class at school!
Edmund is a bit ugly, the rest are all ok and fairly run of the mill. I quite like Flynn.

Heythatwasmyhotdog · 24/10/2022 21:41

Aidan

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/10/2022 21:42

Caspar, Flynn, Edward and Otto are my favourites. Like all apart from Aiden and Colin.
