We still don't know what we're having yet. These are the boys names on our list. Which one would you pick? I'd love to hear your comments on all the names and also if there are associations (good or bad) so we are aware of everything:

Max
Finn
Flynn
Elliott
Caspar
George
Dylan
Otto
Edward
Aidan
Edmund
Colin

Finlay
Maximilian

I'm not sure whether Flynn is cool or ridiculous. What do you say? My husband's idea and I hated it at first but it has really grown on me since. Finn seems more boring in comparison but also more classic. Sometimes I think Finlay works better but I heard in the US it is sometimes seen as girly? I just don't know whether it will age as well.

I think we will just use Max or Finn and not the longer versions but not 100% sure yet.

As for Elliott I'm a bit worried about spelling issues.

I don't know if you know the feeling but with girls names there is a new one I like almost every day whereas with boys names the list is more consistent. On the one hand it makes me feel more secure that with the boys list we won't have any regrets whereas with the girls names I often love a name a certain day and don't care much for it anymore two weeks later (we did manage to come up with a few names I always seem to love, though). But it's exciting to search for girls names too as there are so many that appeal to me!

Baby Colin?!!! 😳 No way. Otto is a great name

When my first was born, early70s, one mum on the ward was hysterical at visiting time and her husband rushed off. Turned out he'd gone and registered the baby and called him Alfie. Everyone was horrified. It came back into fashion and no doubt Colin will as well, maybe not today but soon.

Ikeameatballs · 25/10/2022 20:59

Another Colin fan here! I think it’s definitely due a comeback and I like “Col” as a nn.

Edward, Max, Elliott and George are nice too. Also like Edwin as a PP mentioned.

therubbiliser · 25/10/2022 21:00

I like Finn and Aidan best.

Cleopatra67 · 25/10/2022 21:02

Edmund. Great name, not too popular, Ned, Ed, Eddie, Ted as nn if you want. Biased as I have one myself.

SummerBluez · 25/10/2022 21:03

Edward! Lush name - my cat is called Edward 🤣

neonjumper · 25/10/2022 21:03

Narwhalsh · 24/10/2022 20:06

I am surprised about the popularity of Colin in this thread! I had relegated that name to the realms of Derek, Kevin and Gary 😆

Max is nice but Maximilian is a bit much (if you are worried about spelling this would be my one to worry about!)

Finlay shortens to Fin easy enough and you’ve got the option of the ‘full’ name when he’s in trouble! But again spelling-Findlay, Finlay, Finley. Definitely a boys name to me, I’ve never heard of a girl with that name

Derek is back ... we have one at my daughters school and initially it was strange to hear it but it just seems so normal now !

whoami24601 · 25/10/2022 21:06

We have an Elliott. Everyone spells it Elliot. And I mean everyone! I so wish we'd used 1 t but he's 7 now so a bit past changing x

HouseofGods · 25/10/2022 21:07

We used one of those, one was second choice and another is my DF's name!

Finn and Max for me.

HouseofGods · 25/10/2022 21:09

Or Aidan. That was also on our list.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 25/10/2022 21:12

George and Edward are classic names. I also love how you can shorten Edward to Teddy. I really like Elliot as well. Not keen on Colin tbh.

Fivebeanchilli · 25/10/2022 21:12

Max - ok. A bit dull
Finn - nice enough
Flynn - this is my favourite. It does remind me a bit of Tangled but I still really like it.
Elliott - don't like
Caspar - like. Prefer Jasper
George - not keen. Dull.
Dylan - not keen
Otto - nice
Edward - nice
Aidan - not keen
Edmund - on the fence
Colin - awful sorry.

Finlay - nice. Definitely don't think it would be seen as feminine
Maximilian - nice

PeaceX · 25/10/2022 21:14

Normally I don't like surnames but I really like Flynn
