As per title I am due dd in a couple of weeks and keep going backwards and forwards with her name choice.
We can't decide between Dorothy and Dorothea. I love Dorothy but not sure if it's a bit marmite? But maybe Dorothea is a bit of a mouthful?
Would appreciate opions thank you.

Dorothea

NessieMcNessface · 11/10/2022 15:08

Dorothy (Dottie)

Iamclearlyamug · 11/10/2022 15:16

Dorothea shortened to Thea is lovely

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/10/2022 15:23

Dorothy
Both are nice but the y ending makes it a bit plainer and thus a bit more ahead of the baby name curve than the fussier Dorothea imo .

stopringingme · 11/10/2022 15:26

Dorothy

Dorothea.

Or you could flip it and call her Theodora.

Oh! Theodora is gorgeous. @MayFlower22 Go with your heart. It really doesn’t matter whichever name we prefer. Somewhere inside you know which name feels right to you.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/10/2022 15:48

Dorothea. But im prejudiced as it was our cats telling off name 😅 went by dotty and dots usually .

I had two names for my firstborn and I couldn't decide even when i went into labour. When she was placed in my arms I said "she's Jane" as she looked more like a Jane than a Carol. Wait until she's born.

Disclaimer, only the cat names are true, with pumpkin, sweetiepie and little horror

S25 · 11/10/2022 17:46

Dorothy

MayFlower22 · 11/10/2022 20:57

@Pixiedust1234 love that they were your cats names.
Thanks everyone still not totally sure but leaning more towards Dorothea I think. @ImustLearn2Cook that's definitely the best advice thank you.

Dorothea

MsChatterbox · 11/10/2022 21:14

I'm really sorry but Dorothea made me think of Diarrhoea. So therefore I vote Dorothy

Hatscats · 11/10/2022 21:14

Dorothea!

Head in the clouds 101 · 11/10/2022 21:17

Dorthea is an unusual name go for that it's sounds lovely

Mummyof287 · 11/10/2022 21:20

Trez1510 · 11/10/2022 02:19

Dorothea.

That way you (or her friends) have options (Dotty, Thea) as NNs!

Totally agree with this post! 👌

Mumofgirls2017 · 11/10/2022 21:21

Both lovely, prefer Dorothy

Hopingforhomebirth · 11/10/2022 21:21

Dorothy. Dorothea sounds made up

RamsayEaster · 11/10/2022 21:23

Neither

My mum is a Dorothy and she is 67
she would not wish the name in anyone 😂

MrsToadflax · 11/10/2022 21:43

Both pretty, but I think Dorothea will be a bit of a mouthful on a day-to-day basis. Dorothy sounds a bit more spunky! I like that the name has come back round after being so popular in the 40's.

Fivebeanchilli · 11/10/2022 21:48

I like Dorothy but LOVE Dorothea.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/10/2022 22:31

Dorothea has a prettier sound imo and is more timeless (in that it's never been very popular). I'd be surprised to meet a Dorothy older than about nursery age or much younger than 70, so it may date.

Also agree with pp that Dorothea gives her two very different style nn's depending on her personality as a bonus -retro Dottie/Dolly or more trendy Thea.

Lentil63 · 11/10/2022 22:33

Definitely Dorothy.

Awrite · 11/10/2022 22:34

A thousand times Dorothea.

abw94 · 11/10/2022 22:40

Dorothy.

Sorry Dorothea just reminds me on Diarrohea.

Y7drama · 11/10/2022 22:42

dorothea

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/10/2022 22:43
