As per title I am due dd in a couple of weeks and keep going backwards and forwards with her name choice.
We can't decide between Dorothy and Dorothea. I love Dorothy but not sure if it's a bit marmite? But maybe Dorothea is a bit of a mouthful?
Would appreciate opions thank you.

Both very dated but Dorothea has a nice nn option in Thea so i'd go with that!

Imogensmumma · 11/10/2022 11:31

Dorothy for sure, Dorothea sounds too tried hard, a bit too full of itself

JadeTC · 11/10/2022 11:31

Dorothy 🥰

ofwarren · 11/10/2022 11:32

Dorothy

Lsquiggles · 11/10/2022 11:49

Dorothy is a lovely name 🙂

For some reason my brain can't process Dorothea as a 'real' name, it feels more like the name of a character somehow

ladycarlotta · 11/10/2022 12:02

Looks like you've got a pretty equal split OP! I guess 'Dorothy' feels more traditional English and 'Dorothea' has a slight classical/regency flair but there's nothing in it really. I like them both. Would agree Dorothy is the more marmite of the two.

KirstenBlest · 11/10/2022 12:26

Dorothy. I don't like Thea but Dot is great, and Doll is quite cool

What does a 'bit Marmite' mean?

@Redleavescatfiend I meant you would either love Dorothy or hate it rather than be indifferent. I wonder if it's as useable as the other names of the generation like Florence or Evelyn.

Dorothea if you must.

I'd go with Dora though. Much more contemporary.

I'm indifferent

GlassOuijan · 11/10/2022 13:17

Dorothea.

Or you could flip it and call her Theodora.

MammyS · 11/10/2022 13:20

@GlassOuijan Theadora is a lovely alternative! Much better than either Dorothy or Dorothea in my opinion!

shiningstar2 · 11/10/2022 13:22

Dorothy. I think

ApocalypseNowt · 11/10/2022 13:34

I try to avoid bringing up a name not mentioned but it is interesting that basically switching the halves of the name around does (at least to me) result in a nicer name. And it obviously can result in the same nicknames as Dorothea.

OceanbreezeSun · 11/10/2022 14:10

I’d go with Dorothy.

Cosmicdreams · 11/10/2022 14:19

I like dorothea x

SuperCamp · 11/10/2022 14:23

Dorothea

strawberryjay · 11/10/2022 14:25

Dorothy - I love it with Dottie as a nickname

outtheshowernow · 11/10/2022 14:29

Neither

Lovestodrinkmilk · 11/10/2022 14:31

Dorothea

HappydaysArehere · 11/10/2022 14:32

Dorothea is the main character in George Eliot’s Middlemarch.

catinboots123 · 11/10/2022 14:42

Dorothy is much nicer. I know a few Dotties, DotDots, all fantastic
