Archie for a girl?

cluckinhell0 · 07/10/2022 18:53

Having second girl in December and just watched the Lazarus project and there is a character Archie (think shirt for Archana in her case)

Never met a female Archie but it's growing on me. But can't shake the fact she'll likely always be expected to turn up and be a boy unless it really catches on in popularity!

Thoughts?

Your poor DD would not thank you for it

So many girls and unisex names to choose from I can't understand why you would choose a boys name

girlmom21 · 07/10/2022 18:57

No it's not a good idea.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 07/10/2022 18:57

Absolutely not!

MarmaRell78 · 07/10/2022 18:58

Ooh I actually love it on a girl, but it is more traditionally a boys one

SeasonFinale · 07/10/2022 19:03

I really wouldn't but each to their own

Vitamm · 07/10/2022 19:05

Nooooooo, please, why would you do this to your little girl!!!

frazzledasarock · 07/10/2022 19:05

Archana is an Indian Hindu name. Are you south Asian? If so it should be fine, Archana is a popular name in India.

KirstenBlest · 07/10/2022 19:10

Archibaldina has a nice ring to it , OP.

Thruandthru1 · 07/10/2022 19:10

No

SalviaOfficinalis · 07/10/2022 19:13

Hmm, I wouldn’t. I was next to a little girl called James at the supermarket today, felt very weird.

Sally99 · 07/10/2022 19:14

No

Scrambledchickens · 07/10/2022 19:14

No there are loads of gorgeous names that you can use for a boy or a girl, that’s not one of them. How about Ellis/Elis really cool and beautiful

heidbuttsupper · 07/10/2022 19:16

Of course not

ClocksGoingBackwards · 07/10/2022 19:17

why would you do that to your daughter?

Foxtrot101 · 07/10/2022 19:18

Maybe at some point in the future this will work, but right now Archie is such a popular boys name it's really not fair to do it to your DD.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 07/10/2022 19:18

Poor girl. No.

MarmiteCoriander · 07/10/2022 19:19

NO

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 07/10/2022 19:22

One of my fave actresses is Archie Panjabi. She’s an Archana. I have a boy Archie and think it’s a fab nn for a girl.

escapingthecity · 07/10/2022 19:22

Makes me think of the fab actress Archie Panjabi

Nope from me

cluckinhell0 · 07/10/2022 19:26

To all those brutal 'why would you do that to her?!' Pretty offensive to a lot of Asian families where it is a popular shortened name!

I think it's an intriguing name because it actually sounds very feminine as the shortened version more feminine than masculine and yet has been adopted mainly as a male name historically. If I were coming to it with no prior knowledge (or from a different culture) I think it does sound like a girls name.

Appreciate consensus is heavily on the No side! Grin

Do you know what, I absolutely love it for a girl. I think it’s brilliant. However, I may not be the best judge as when I was a teenager I always wanted Sydney as a girl’s name if I ever had a girl.

For full disclosure both my boy and girl children have very boring names.

go for it!

maddiemookins16mum · 07/10/2022 19:28

But you’re not Asian are you?

Just give your DD a female name and stop being so ‘quirky’.

Oh balls. Loads of people choose names from a different culture. My DD is Megan. I’m not Welsh.
