Why the hate for David?

Love the name David. Think baby Dave is gorgeous but my husband is totally against it.

We already have a Jonathan and I love that it’s traditional but not particularly popular and I’m looking for something similar. Any ideas?

I don’t think your husband not liking it means there’s hate for the name! I like it. Works v well with Jonathan.
How about Alexander or Benjamin?

FurnitureDisease · 01/10/2022 14:53

David is a family name for us, two family members are David, another one a version of this and my DS middle name is also David. It’s a good name!

But like anything won’t suit everyone

Skelligsfeathers · 01/10/2022 14:54

Saul?
Another biblical pairing with Jonathan?

Imissmoominmama · 01/10/2022 14:56

Is it because of the Royale Family? They used to say, Baby David in such a wet way!

Wordwatcher · 01/10/2022 14:57

Reuben
Benjamin
Noah
Saul
Stephen
Thomas

When I hear David I picture a middle aged man not a baby. I know it's strange Blush it's just like Gary, I can't picture a baby named Gary either.

Jonathan is a beautiful name so im sure you'll find something lovely to go with it. Smile

MbatataOwl · 01/10/2022 14:59

It's just a bland name. Everyone knows a David/ Dave.

I love David. Classic name.
Not terribly keen on Dave - often it’s the short options that end up putting me off.

Haus1234 · 01/10/2022 15:03

David was the most common name at our wedding and is the most common name at my company. It’s a really good name! Just it’s also an incredibly common name and most people know more than one - so your David would be “Baby David” or “David Surname” or whatever to everyone.

Pemba · 01/10/2022 15:04

It's not like Gary at all, David is a classic just not fashionable at the moment.

Weren't David and Jonathan intensly close friends in the Bible?

Maireas · 01/10/2022 15:05

David is a lovely, classic name!

ladygindiva · 01/10/2022 15:19

Db is David, it's my mum's favourite name of all time. She says she knew from a little girl she would have a David. I think it's great.

J0y · 01/10/2022 15:21

Well, It might come back in 10 years. The fact that David and Linda are being discussed even as possibilities that most people shoot down, that alone means that these names will come back but not yet

J0y · 01/10/2022 15:23

What about Marcus? That goes with Jonathan. Imo

SpinningFloppa · 01/10/2022 15:24

Is there? Quite a few David’s and my kids school

Lightningrain · 01/10/2022 15:25

I like David but not Dave.

I know two David’s that don’t like being called Dave (and tell everyone this when they introduce themselves) and yet people still insist on calling them it.

Dalekjastninerels · 01/10/2022 15:25

I like it :)

MrJi · 01/10/2022 15:26

I love David. It also works really well with Johnathan.

Gysophilla · 01/10/2022 15:26

Andrew

puddingandsun · 01/10/2022 15:26

I like it pronounced as Dah-vid, but I realise it would be a very hard work in the U.K. to stick to that.

Dumbledormer · 01/10/2022 15:27

Yes, sorry I should of said, both sides of the family are not keen on David either but I’ve not been put off! I’ve also just Googled Jonathan and David and found the biblical link which is fabulous (annoyingly 😫)

Thank you for your suggestions so far. Really like Alexander and Edward although conscious of Jonathan and Edward =Jedward …

Baby David just makes me think of The Royle Family 😂

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. They won't be a thing in a couple of years. And it's really not obvious.

ChristmasJumpers · 01/10/2022 15:34

DH has brothers Jonathan and David, in their 20s/30s. He is Daniel which you may like if anything like my MIL?
