Why the hate for David?

Love the name David. Think baby Dave is gorgeous but my husband is totally against it.

We already have a Jonathan and I love that it’s traditional but not particularly popular and I’m looking for something similar. Any ideas?

I like the full name but I'm not a fan of Dave at all. It's so bland to me. Sorry!

Most Davids seem to be 30-60 so it doesn't feel fresh but dated and tired.

Abra1t · 01/10/2022 21:17

David and Jonathan together is a very biblical combination. Did the Dimblebeys no harm though.

Yika · 01/10/2022 21:20

I find David a beautiful name.

What about Michael, Stephen, Ivan or Robert if you want classics that are a bit underused.

mum2jakie · 01/10/2022 21:25

I like alliterative pairings so think Jacob goes well with Jonathan

sassyduck · 01/10/2022 21:25

It's a lovely name. A strong, classic boy's name.

TheSimpleLife88 · 01/10/2022 21:26

I think David is a classic name. I know quite a few. Two are older (50s, 60s) and two are younger (20s, 30s). It's timeless.

Peter

Wasn't aware there was any hate for David. It was very popular up until quite recently and now we're dealing with a glut of middle aged Davids. A lot of whom are currently having their own children. And people generally look outside of their own generation's names when naming their baby.

No it isn’t. It is a boring, bland and cheap

LuciaPopp · 01/10/2022 23:05

Still a very popular name in the Jewish community. I know lots.

Davey is nice for a little boy but once he’s a teen all his friends will call him Dave. It is written 😂

midsomermurderess · 02/10/2022 00:19

Cheap? That’s an odd one.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/10/2022 09:11

David is a solid classic Hebrew name.

Dave is so inextricably linked with middle-aged men who think they have great banter that there is literally a TV channel named for them.

babyjellyfish · 03/10/2022 09:35

David is lovely but I don't like Dave.

My dad is called David and nobody ever calls him Dave.

ChagSameachDoreen · 03/10/2022 09:36

I've never experienced any hate for the name David. I know Davids of all ages. It's a great name.

ZenNudist · 03/10/2022 09:37

It's an absolute classic. Will never date. Like James but less boring.

Cheeselog · 03/10/2022 09:38

I don’t dislike David as a full name but I do struggle to imagine Dave on a child. Maybe Davey is a better nickname?

Roselilly36 · 03/10/2022 09:41

I like the name David, I know a few and they are all really lovely men. But yes the Royale Family series has probably put some off. If you want a biblical name, Nathan, Matthew or Luke are names that I also like.

Roselilly36 · 03/10/2022 09:43

I know someone who’s dogs are called Dave & Nigel!

SpaghettiSuzetti · 03/10/2022 12:39

It's a strong classic. Dave is atrocious though.

SpaghettiSuzetti · 03/10/2022 12:41

I was about to say I know brothers Nige and Dave and a dad Nige with a son Dave.

LynetteScavo · 03/10/2022 12:46

Benjamin?

Richard?

Oliver?

Martin?

There are lots of little David's where I live, I think because it works well in more than one language.

Jleome · 03/10/2022 13:01

Loads little of Russian and Ukrainian Davids and Marks. I immediately assume the parents are from one and another when hear the name at a playground. Nice name but overused in certain communities

worriedniece · 03/10/2022 13:39

Dovid -

RosesAndHellebores · 03/10/2022 13:50

I think it's lovely. David not Dave. David socked it to Goliath.

I think the following also work well with Jonathan

Julian
Timothy
Philip
Matthew
Zachary
Christopher

TrashyPanda · 03/10/2022 14:58
