What do you think?DD due in 11 weeks.

Is Millie too common?

Scout is from 'To Kill a Mockingbird', incase people don't know.(I haven't made it up, honest!)

I was also thinking i would like dd to have 2 middle names. Our surname starts with a 'C'. any suggestions?

I like it. Is one of Demi Moores girls called Scout?

scorpio1 · 23/01/2008 16:50

I think so

I prefer Milly (toyed with it myself but ended up on Emily)
Not sure about Scout TBH as I clocked it as Bruce Willis'es daughter (may be way off there)

Was too tired and brain too fudled to get the Mockingbird reference

He did do some funky names

Atticus
Jem
Finch

Sigh .. the days when I read

cornsilk · 23/01/2008 16:53

I like both of those names. Millie is popular but there aren't loads where we are. Don't know any Scouts. Be prepared for the inevitable teasing - boy scout etc.

Peachy · 23/01/2008 16:53

Scorpio, it's LOVELY, stop worrying!

And Jessamy is nice for the second name.

have faith in your choices!

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2008 16:54

Millie is nice - Scout less so

scorpio1 · 23/01/2008 16:54

lol peachy just checking the wider community

I like the both seperately - not quite sure about the two together though.
I haven't met any Millie's recently so as far as I know you're ok on that one.
Hmmmmmmm - Millie Grace, Millie Ruth, Millie Jane, Millie Jean? Oh I really want to get Scout to work for me ( I love To Kill a Mockingbird as well) but it's just not atm - will think further.

Good Luck with dd anyway - are you due in April then? My dd3 was born in April last year and dd1 in April some years before that - great month to have a baby

sweetkitty · 23/01/2008 16:59

I like it

I loved Millie for DD2 but with our surname it was very similar to Milli-pede Scout is different and good for a middle name.

Go with it!

scorpio1 · 23/01/2008 16:59

Yes due in april, she is my third baby, our fourth baby between us. Our first daughter! It was such a surprise at the scan

Scout is hideous....very americanised, harsh sounding and a bit downmarket - and it rhymes with trout and grout. It may well be from the Harper Lee book but I see it as celebrity inspired.

Millie is ok.....a bit twee but lovely as a nickname for Amelia for example.

NorthernLurker · 23/01/2008 17:00

Oh how lovely - girls are brilliant - I would say that as it's all I know though

scorpio1 · 23/01/2008 17:01

Coonie, my other children have americanised names so i guess they would match.

I see your point on the nickname thing though.

MamaGrumpy · 23/01/2008 17:02

I love Amelia (shortened to millie is lovely too)

I want another DD now, Just so I can call her Amelia

NorthernLurker · 23/01/2008 17:04

I suppose the only thing with Millie is - how will it sit when she's 50 and a brain surgeon? I think it's ok actually - but you wouldn't want people referring to her as Dr Millicent X would you?

scorpio1 · 23/01/2008 17:05

See i thought of that too, but just guessed that she will growing up with peers who have similar and even worse silly names.

OP posts:
MamaGrumpy · 23/01/2008 17:07

I don't think you'll have that problem.

DS is called by a shortened version of a rather old fashioned name - the" short" version is MUCH better and sounds so different to the longer version (although they have the same numnber of letters lolol)

I p urposely DDINT call him the long name as its a shit name

NomDePlume · 23/01/2008 17:08

Millie nice.

Scout a bit, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, naff

NomDePlume · 23/01/2008 17:10

people won;t think you've chosen it from To Kill a Mockingbird. They'll think you're one of those numpties who name their kid Chardonnay or Britney after celeb eejits

NorthernLurker · 23/01/2008 17:11

I don't think it's a silly name! You're right actually - plenty of Archies around for example - and nobody is ever going to call them Archibald are they?

Have thought a bit more - Millie Rose - or carry on the theme and go for Jean Louise

horsemadgal · 23/01/2008 17:15

I'm with NorthernLurker, love both names but not together.

VictorianSqualor · 23/01/2008 17:15

Scorpio!
Get back on the antenatal thread and read what I said!
We dont take the names out into the wider community!!

You nkow I think It's great and it goes with the others names too.

branflake81 · 23/01/2008 19:12

Hmmm..don't like either to be honest. Millie is very twee and not really a grown woman's name. Scout is just weird.
