What do you think?DD due in 11 weeks.

Is Millie too common?

Scout is from 'To Kill a Mockingbird', incase people don't know.(I haven't made it up, honest!)

I was also thinking i would like dd to have 2 middle names. Our surname starts with a 'C'. any suggestions?

I like it. a bit different, and fomr oen of may fave books!!!

millie nice too....

alfiesbabe · 23/01/2008 20:21

Seem to be a lot of Millies around at the moment. But why not give a name that could be shortened to Millie if she wants? - Amelia/Emily/ Camilla - as some people have said, Millie is cute for a baby, but not so dignified for a 40 year old professional woman.

McDreamy · 23/01/2008 20:24

I have an Emily who is known as Millie, Mills for exactly that reason. When she grows up she can choose how she would like to be known but for now she is known as MIllie

horsemadgal · 23/01/2008 21:34

Oo I like the Emily/Millie connection, never thought of that.

ItsNeverTooEarlyForPopcorn · 23/01/2008 21:38

I like the name Millie

chipmonkey · 23/01/2008 21:44

alfiesbaby, when Scorpio's Millie is all grown up and has won the Nobel Peace Prize, Millie will be regarded as a very dignified name!
Scorpio, have to say, I agree with Peachy and VS, no need to be coming out her in the cold, come back to the antenatal thread where it's all warm and nice!
Anyway you definitely can't call her anything else now, we know her as Millie!
BTW I totally get the Mockingbird reference, this lot clearly only read Heat magazine!

agree that Millie is nice as a shortening but it's not a name in itself. I know a Millie short for Amelia. Could also be Emilia or Emily of course. Far better to give her a 'proper' name and then she can have the Millie as a nickname and drop it as a grown up if she wants to (eg when chairing conferences, or running the financial markets, or being Prime Minister )

I also think Millie Scout are two names that just don't go together. Millie is pretty and girly and Scout is the polar opposite.

chipmonkey · 23/01/2008 22:36

But names that were known as a shortening can become names in their own right. Ds3 is Tom, was christened Tom, was never Thomas ( except to one neighbour who insists on calling him Thomas despite being told he is Tom} We liked Tom, not so keen on Thomas so why should we call him by a name we are never going to use?

Agree with couple of others that the two names don't quite go together - Millies all old-world cutesy, and Scout (influenced by TKAM) is all sass and tomboy.
You can't heave a brick round here without hitting a Millie, so I have to say, I ain't sold on it. I do rather like Scout.

And agree with yahdayahda - Atticus is a cool name

HonoriaGlossop · 23/01/2008 22:49

because Tom is not a name it's a shortening

No, of course it's up to you chipmonkey you just have to accept that many people think differently because there is, ooo, just hundreds of years of the other full name being used.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 23/01/2008 22:55

scout is nice and it's a grower

there are a LOT of millies so not for me but i did love it before it was popular iykwim!

chipmonkey · 23/01/2008 22:56

The trouble is when ds1 was born we called him Greg but felt pressurised into calling him Gregory on his birth cert. Well MIL called him Gregory for about 2 years!
I wasn't making that mistake again!

SusieHughsie · 23/01/2008 23:00

I love it, it's a lovely name.

McDreamy · 24/01/2008 06:42

Isn't it funny reading this, people saying they know loads of MIllies? I know one other here, she is just a Millie!!

My Emily/Millie is the only one in her class. Maybe this will change when we move back to the UK!!

DD's middle name is Veronica (after her grandmother). I love the name Scout and I would of thought most people would get the TKAMB reference.

Wonderwomannot · 24/01/2008 06:43

.

shoshe · 24/01/2008 06:50

There was another Millie who came home last summer Mcdeamy, she was the daughet of one of the Medics, but was just under school age.

shoshe · 24/01/2008 07:03
