What do you think?DD due in 11 weeks.

Is Millie too common?

Scout is from 'To Kill a Mockingbird', incase people don't know.(I haven't made it up, honest!)

I was also thinking i would like dd to have 2 middle names. Our surname starts with a 'C'. any suggestions?

Was she a nurse, civilian?

shoshe · 24/01/2008 07:18

No she was a Army Medic, she wasnt actually there very long as she was brought back to do her paramedics course after only 9 months. Millie is 4 now

McDreamy · 24/01/2008 07:20

Ah ok, I don't know them then so I can't add that Millie to my list

FoghornLeghorn · 24/01/2008 07:58

I quite like it !

And don't worry about people taking the wrong reference of the name - we like Jude for a boy and I'm sure some people will think we are numpties and are naming him after Jude Law but who cares, we know we aren't !!
Also agree about shortening childrens names - we are going for Jess for a girl, not Jessica just Jess.

Good luck btw

Tigerschick · 24/01/2008 08:07

Hi Scorpio
As you know, I like Millie Scout - and I hadn't got a clue about the Demi Moore link!
I do agree, however, with those who suggest giving her a longer name and using Millie. What about Amelia, Emilia, Emily, Camilla. But I know what you are saying about names changing over the years.

BTW, where are those wedding pics you promised us???

lou031205 · 24/01/2008 21:52

I have a Millicent, who is known as Millie. To be honest, the Millicent was met with a few raised eyebrows, but we didn't care, and with most names, they just seem to fit the child.

Our Millie is a funny, adventurous, daring 2 year old, and the name Millie fits her just as perfectly as I can imagine it being for a delicate little wall-flower.

nutcracker · 24/01/2008 21:56

I think Millie Scout is lovely but I think Amelia Scout sounds even better.

calzone · 24/01/2008 21:59

Did someone say you liked Jessamy too?

What about Amelia Jessamy Scout?

I think it's great!

Bluenosesaint · 25/01/2008 23:32

I have a gorgeous, fun-loving, cheeky and utterly adorable Millie ...and she's the only 'Millie' in the whole school

Fab name!

I did consider giving her a more formal name and shortening it to Millie, but tbh i didn't like any of the formal names. Our way around this was to give her the formal, traditional and beautiful middle name, Elizabeth.

blanki · 26/01/2008 01:01

Just love Millie Scout.

But I do prefer names that can be shortened. But honestly let the world think what it wants.

This is your daughter, choose a good name

Best wishes

BabyValentine · 27/01/2008 21:35

Love it! Have faith - DD's MN is Scout and many, many people recognise the literary reference.

(And so what if a celebrity's child is named Scout - just because they act, doesn't mean they can't have good taste in books...)

nooka · 27/01/2008 21:48

I don't like either much, and don't think they run together very well (although your surname may may it work of course). But somehow I do think calzone's suggestion works. I guess because family surnames are often second middle names, and I think that Scout sounds like a surname. I really don't like shortenings for given names - I think it removes all flexibility - what do you call them when they are naughty for example? Interestingly my two who both have proper formal names are curently their shortenings to friends and family, but not to teachers - I think it's nice to have that option. Also most people I know who were called by their short name as children (ie Jimmy, Charlie etc), had an even shorter names as teenagers and then went for the formal name as grown ups. If you can have the option, then why not?

morningpaper · 27/01/2008 21:49

I like it

marina · 27/01/2008 21:55

I think you should go for NorthernLurker's solution and call her Jean Louise
Scout's a nickname after all, not her given name - and as others have said, leaves you a bit a hostage to fortune...suppose your little Scout turns out to be less of a Jean Louise and more of a Violet Elizabeth...?

TigerFeet · 27/01/2008 21:55

I like it but like Amelia Scout better

Springflower · 27/01/2008 22:27

I like both. My niece has Scout as a middle name and my SIL always regrets not calling her Scout.

CaptainCod · 27/01/2008 22:27

*scout9 is wanky

Vulgar · 27/01/2008 22:39

I like both.

And if she thinks Millie is too girly when she's 40, she can always change it to Milla.

At least Millie isn't an old bag's name.

I think Millie is a perfect name

But then it is MY name!

shimmy0 · 24/07/2012 09:28

Mixed gender?

Badgerina · 24/07/2012 18:10

I LOVE Scout. Not keen on Millie.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 24/07/2012 22:36

Milly was going to be DS3's name, but we thought better of it! It was going to be short for Melisande, if you fancy an alternative. Smile

PercyFilth · 26/07/2012 01:21

People ..... THIS THREAD IS OVER FOUR YEARS OLD

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/07/2012 13:40
