What do you think?

(Sorry for all the posts asking for advice recently... having a million ideas but never at the same time!)

Sounds like pile cream

Notanotherwindow · 12/09/2022 16:17

Sounds like an umbrella

PastaForLife · 12/09/2022 16:18

Sounds like a Spanish hotel

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/09/2022 16:19

Our mayor in Touraine was called this ( she wasn’t very nice)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/09/2022 16:19

Sounds like pile cream

I thought exactly the same - it doesn't help that it sounds like 'arris 'ole!

I'm afraid that was the first thing I thought too. Sorry Op.

I don't know what that means 😂

Do you have Spanish heritage? It's a Spanish girls name.

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 16:22

Marietta?

OP posts:
noclothesinbed · 12/09/2022 16:23

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 16:23

And Spanish surname.

noclothesinbed · 12/09/2022 16:23

Or budget hotel in Benidorm

LePigeon · 12/09/2022 16:24

Parasol

RobertsRadio · 12/09/2022 16:24

Aris = arse

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 16:25

It's quite a common Spanish name! I guess I'll knock this one off, got British family too and sounds like it doesn't work in English!

OP posts:
RobertsRadio · 12/09/2022 16:26

I like Marietta, reminds me of The Darling Buds of May.

teezletangler · 12/09/2022 16:27

Beautiful name!

GreenClock · 12/09/2022 16:27

Sounds like a holiday resort.

Minikievs · 12/09/2022 16:28

PastaForLife · 12/09/2022 16:18

Sounds like a Spanish hotel

Exactly what I thought of too

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 16:30

It probably IS the name of a hotel? It's a common Spanish name referring to the Virgin Mary (Maria of Solitude).

WaitinginVain · 12/09/2022 16:30

It's a shame you've discounted it OP, I think Marisol is a beautiful name and a nice nod to your Spanish heritage.
I prefer it to Marietta, but that is also OK.

DaisyWaldron · 12/09/2022 16:32

I think it's a lovely name, but probably only works for someone with a Spanish or Spanish-speaking background. It would be a bit strange for someone whose ancestors had lived in Leicestershire for ten generations unless there was a specific reason for using it.

DaisyWaldron · 12/09/2022 16:35

Honestly, keep it on the list. The Mumsnet names thread are pretty notorious for pouring down scorn on anything not slightly bland mainstream British in a way that in no way reflects any sort of reality I've encountered.

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 16:36

Oh! Maybe I will keep it then! I like it and love the meaning. I would love a name connected to the Virgin Mary as well. Maybe i've been too hasty to dismiss it! I think it's quite popular in the USA too so does seem to work in some English speaking countries. I've never visited Benidorm, or heard anyone say " 'arris", so perhaps it's a regional thing in the UK? I'm fairly sure my British family won't be too familiar with Benidorm hotels or slang like that.
