What do you think?

(Sorry for all the posts asking for advice recently... having a million ideas but never at the same time!)

I like it- it feels like a sunny name
I like Marietta too

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 12/09/2022 16:39

Marina is lovely too

Soubriquet · 12/09/2022 16:40

I like it but it is very Spanish

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 12/09/2022 16:41

It’s a shame about the replies, those connections hadn’t occurred to me.

Marietta is really lovely.

We just met a Marisol on holiday- from Colombia. She was very pretty and suited her name

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/09/2022 16:42

I don't know what that means

It's two-step Cockney rhyming slang: 'Aris' is short for Aristotle, which is the rhyme for 'bottle (and glass)' - and that in turn is the rhyme for arse.

Littlemissprosecco · 12/09/2022 16:43

I like it
My children all have slightly unusual names. People never forget who they are, they like it!

Namechangefail123 · 12/09/2022 16:45

I always thought it was the shortened version of "Maria del Sol"

TabithaTittlemouse · 12/09/2022 16:47

It reminds me of vagisil.
sorry!

Buttons294749 · 12/09/2022 17:05

It's a perfectly normal spanish name, my yoga teacher's name in fact! i think it's really pretty.

newbiename · 12/09/2022 17:15

Disinfectant

I didn’t get to the end of your post before I went “I bet this is Sausage”! Loving the commitment there.

For some reason it makes me think of rubber gloves. That doesn’t mean you ought to discount it though.

MKCH · 12/09/2022 17:16

I think Spanish hotel, or holiday, like 'mar y sol' - but I don't speak Spanish, so that may be me just being bad at Spanish pronunciations / hearing it wrong in my mind!
I'm not sure that if I met someone IRL I'd make that connection.

WhackingPhoenix · 12/09/2022 17:25

I like it!

I actually quite like Mariposa too, which is Spanish for butterfly 🦋

hittheroadjackk · 12/09/2022 17:25

Keep it on your list OP, if the name is anything but clementine you'll never win MN over.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2022 17:29

I like it. And the meaning Mar y sol (sea and sun). Prefer Maribel though. Or Mirabel (if it wasn't for Encanto). Mariposa is really unique too 🥰

Mizmerise · 12/09/2022 17:32

I think it’s lovely. Classic, simple Spanish name. Really classy.

lickenchugget · 12/09/2022 17:33

Mariella?

Marlowe?

Comedycook · 12/09/2022 17:33

Agree with a pp...it sounds like a holiday resort

SandieCollins · 12/09/2022 17:34

Sounds like a brand of disinfectant to me

Poppins2016 · 12/09/2022 17:40

I don't mind it... but can see the point that others make about Anusol.

I have to be honest, I clicked because I thought you might have been meaning Mariupol (and spell check converted)... I wonder whether anyone else might wonder the same at first glance. Then again, it could just be a quirk of my brain!

I'll suggest Marilla, Mariella and Miriam as alternatives to consider.

Highamite · 12/09/2022 16:17

Sounds like pile cream

Sorry, what I thought first too!

mogwa · 12/09/2022 17:49

I've always found it beautiful. I remember it from an old Clint Eastwood movie - there was a character named Marisol. To me it sounds lovely, sunny and very Spanish. Mar y sol - sea and sun.

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/09/2022 17:55

Annasol?

jrt2022 · 12/09/2022 18:17

Had to Google Anusol to know what it is ... We live abroad and we don't have this where we currently live! I've never heard of it (and I grew up in the UK). So not sure that's an issue, if this is where the 'piles cream' comment came from. (Obviously Marisol also doesn't have the word 'anus' in it so unless you're familiar with the brand I don't think this will be a problem! 😂)
