What do you think?

(Sorry for all the posts asking for advice recently... having a million ideas but never at the same time!)

Well I love it.

But then my ds has Spanish on his fathers side and I remember it from CSI NY and I love how Horacio says it!

Marisol or Marietta if you want something that may work better in English.

We went for a name that is used in both countries but used the Spanish spelling.

LegoFiends · 12/09/2022 18:53

It’s quite a middle aged name, if you expect her to spend any time in Spain.

mrsbyers · 12/09/2022 18:58

One of the real housewives of Miami iirc

OldTinHat · 12/09/2022 18:59

No! Just no!!!

Marietta?

Marietta is a type of biscuit!

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 12/09/2022 19:03

It sounds a lot like Lysol the deodorant spray for pongy trainers sorry.

Glitterspy · 12/09/2022 19:06

It sounds a bit sun-creamy.

How about just plain Mari? Sol could be middle name?

tentontobias · 12/09/2022 19:44

I've known a couple of Marisol's over the years. Both Spanish. I don't really like how the name sounds though to be honest. I prefer Maria.

FunsizedandFabulous · 12/09/2022 20:22

Maria is nice. Marisol sounds like a lemon toilet cleaner.

mathanxiety · 12/09/2022 20:24

How about Maribel?

It's a popular Puerto Rican name.

Crunchymum · 12/09/2022 21:05

Marissa (sp) is very pretty and also a Spanish name.

MojoJojo71 · 12/09/2022 21:10

I like it but from others reactions perhaps it won’t work. If you want a Spanish name connected with the Virgin Mary I really love the name Soledad.

seperatedmum · 13/09/2022 07:59

FWIW I think it's nice
I wouldn't make that association
I've mostly heard it (in SE England) on Muslim ladies over 30
the 'sol' bit if anything sounds summery to me
just do as you wish

GlassDeli · 13/09/2022 08:30

It sounds medical to me too.

Marissa?

Monkeytapper · 13/09/2022 08:34

Marissa?

EdgeOfACoin · 13/09/2022 08:36

Marisol is lovely, especially if you have Spanish heritage.

Most Londoners won't be familiar with the two-step cockney rhyming slang.

As someone unfamiliar with the various brands of pile cream, I hadn't heard of Anusol.

It did call to mind the word 'parasol' but that's not a reason not to use it. For instance, the name 'Steve' initially calls to my mind the words 'steam' and 'stove', but so what?

If you live anywhere near a big city, non-English names are extremely common in schools and nobody would bat an eye at Marisol.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 13/09/2022 08:38

I've never heard of it and when I read the thread title I assumed it was in the health section and Marisol was some sort of medication.

Apollonia1 · 13/09/2022 08:49

I think it's lovely!

English-speaking people unfamiliar with it might pronounce it Maris-ol, instead of Mari-sol.
One of the RHOMiami is Marisol.

OnLockdown · 13/09/2022 09:18

I think some of the hate for this name might be coming from putting the stress in the wrong place when saying it. It sounds a lot better when pronounced the Spanish way. I think it's a nice name although I personally don't like the religious meaning behind it.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/09/2022 10:02

It depends where you live, though: you can't really be surprised if you live in the UK and people automatically pronounce it as if it followed the rules of English/Welsh/other home language.

Notanotherwindow · 13/09/2022 10:32

Marietta is pretty though.

Runnerduck34 · 13/09/2022 10:41

My first thought is it sounds like a holiday resort in Spain .
But actually that's just because I'm unfamiliar. It would soon" fit" the baby .

Titsflyingsouth · 13/09/2022 14:44

Agree it sounds like a Spanish holiday resort...
