Identical Twin Girls - Eliza and ???

I’m 19+5 with identical twins girls and we struggling with a name for one twin

We’ve agreed on Eliza for one, but haven’t decided on a middle name yet.

I really like Lexi, but I don’t know if I sounds like a “real” full name or if it sounds like it’s short for something. However I can’t work out what Lexi could be short for, I don’t want Alexa because of the whole Amazon thing!!!! I’m also unsure if Lexi and Eliza sound too harsh

DH has suggested we honour his late mum (who I never met) who’s name was Enid but always called Ellie. But I think having two “E” names is naff, whether it’s Enid and Eliza or Ellie and Eliza. Plus I don’t know anyone under about 70 called Enid.

So any suggestions on what could go with Eliza?!

I nearly called DD Eliza, beautiful choice!

Another short but not too similar name, and not the same letter? My sisters share the same letter and they always got post addressed to the same initial, a small thing but it used to really annoy them!

Lexi is sweet and I like the repetition of the L from Eliza :)

Other suggestions:

Eliza + Tess
Eliza + Olivia
Eliza + Poppy
Eliza + Sienna

I don't like Lexi, Alexandra - Alex, I'd lovely though and goes well with Eliza. Also Emma.

Please don't use Enid, even as a middle name. It's hideous. And probably why MIL was known as Ellie.

Joolsin · 16/07/2022 12:46

I don't think Lexi goes with Eliza, it's too modern sounding.

I like Eliza and Tansy
Or Eliza and Lottie

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 16/07/2022 12:55

Elizabeth (Eliza) and Alexandra (lexi/Alex)

I personally wouldn't name 2 sister Eliza and Edna/Ellie let alone identical twins.

DacwMamYnDwad · 16/07/2022 12:55

Enid pronounced the welsh way, it's a very old welsh name pronounced Enn-id, is lovely. Not keen on Eliza. Lexi is awful

PancakesWithCheese · 16/07/2022 12:59

I really dislike Lexi, it’s also one of those names that gets always hyphenated with May/Mae. It also doesn’t go with Eliza.

Enid is awful. Ellie and Eliza is way too matchy, she needs her own name.

Felicity
Hollie
Clara
Josephine (Josie)
Phoebe
Laura
Lucy

I'd choose a name that doesn't start with a vowel or contain an S or Z.
That doesn't resemble Eliza at all.

These are names for LIFE, not just childhood. When twins are tiny and cute the "matching pair" aspect with matching names, hairstyles and outfits etc is tempting and amusing . But not for long. In just a few years the girls themselves will very soon be asserting themselves as separate individuals , a whole person in their own right, recognised and appreciated as unique. Not just "half of a matching pair".

Think of it like your own pair relationship; society is past the days where a spouse was regarded as someone's " other half" or a stand-in/representative for their partner. Now every woman expects to be seen as a fully formed independent identity with a whole life and existence of her own. Your daughters will be just like that so start them off with distinguishable names that can't be easily confused.

Lottie

Goldbar · 16/07/2022 13:01

Eliza has a certain vintage vibe about it so it doesn't really go with Lexi, if that's something you're concerned about. I would also go for a name starting with a consonent and not ending in 'a'.

Eliza and Margaret came to mind, but also:

Eliza and Florence
Eliza and Catherine
Eliza and Charlotte
Eliza and Beatrice
Eliza and Bridget
Eliza and Dorothy
Eliza and Constance
Eliza and Vivian

zazasabore · 16/07/2022 13:23

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 16/07/2022 13:40

One of my favourite books when I was little was about twins called Lottie and Lisa (Charlotte and Elizabeth). I think they go together well, :)

Hotenoughtoburnasausage · 16/07/2022 13:43

Eliza and Jazmine..
