Hi there.

looking at a girls name of Harper or Skye

Harper Rai
Skylar Rai (but would be known as Skye)

family hate the name Skye but I don’t!

Not worried so much if a name is popular or not etc

Im quite a bohemian person 🤪

all comments and or thoughts appreciated 😎

I have watched WAY too much paw patrol to think skye is a good idea...

Sev100 · 03/07/2022 03:53

That’s fair enough! I’m a ftm so new to all this! Hehe 🙃

I much prefer Skye to Harper but I’m not a fan of Skylar.

Would you pronounce Rai like in rye bread, or ray of sunshine?

Ray of sunshine, but middle name is up for tender too just couldn’t think of one that flowed with Skye.

many thanks for your comment 😀

I love Skye, Skylar is a bit ‘breaking bad’ and Rai is a bit over cooked now I think

i would go with Skye and a different middle name

They don’t sound bohemian to me…they scream chavvy.

cantley · 03/07/2022 05:45

I like Harper.
It's a popular name here in Australia ( number 12 name here last year).
If you like a name just use it, don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

DockOTheBay · 03/07/2022 05:49

I think Skye, but not Skylar, and a different middle name

herecomesthepun · 03/07/2022 05:49

Harper or Skye could be fine, but please don't pair them with Rai, that is suuuuuper chavvy. Its not bohemian. If you put them with a more tasteful middle name I think you can make them more elegant/bohemian.

AverageJoan · 03/07/2022 05:51

Of the two I'd choose Harper

itsgettingweird · 03/07/2022 06:06

I know a Skylar and a Skye.

I like both but my preference is Skye.

Don't mind Harper but wouldn't be a choice.

Skylar/Skye Rose

Skylar Eve

Skylar Beau

Skylar Anne

Skye Louise

Skye Annabelle

Skye Elizabeth

What about Brooke as well?

Ouchmytoe100 · 03/07/2022 06:47

Harper is a nice sound and was a noce name pre-Beckham but now it's just very... Beckham. How about Piper? Similar but rarer?

Skye too is a nice sound but Skylar is a bit American for my taste. I'd imagine a Skylar to have siblings called Cassidy and Mackenzie, I don't like this whole vibe.

When I think 'bohemian' I think names like:

Juno

Juniper

Clementine

Beatrix

Celeste

Selene

Zephyr

Minerva

Salem

Cassia

Flora

CakeRattleandRoll · 03/07/2022 06:48

Skye (not Skylar) with a middle name at least 2 syllables.

Ouchmytoe100 · 03/07/2022 06:49

Also please not Rai! For a start, with this spelling it would be pronounced 'rye'. Secondly, Ray/Rae for a girl is quickly becoming the new May/Mae. It's not very original and will soon seem dated and a bit chavvy. For a one syllable bohemian sounding middle name how about:

Joy
June
Dove
Wren

daisypond · 03/07/2022 07:30

Skye but not Skylar. Definitely not Harper. Neither name is bohemian. Quite the opposite. Not Rai. That’s pronounced rye, and is the Italian TV channel. If you mean Ray, I wouldn’t. It doesn’t go with Skye (sky ray? Like a weapon?)

DrDetriment · 03/07/2022 07:34

They are both pretty awful, especially with Rai/Ray. Are you American? Skylar makes me think of the trans gender murderer Skylar Deleon. If it has to be one of the two, Harpur could work but not with Rai.

NannyR · 03/07/2022 07:39

I would pronounce Rai as rye, so skye rai sounds a bit odd, maybe go for Rae if you want an alternative spelling with unambiguous pronunciation.

TheVolturi · 03/07/2022 07:40

I like Skye and Harper! I'm not sure if Skylar works with Rai though.

SmileyPiuPiu · 03/07/2022 07:42

Another one who thinks Skylar is a no. Skye is nice.

Skye Rai is nice but does look a bit like Skye Raine which is a bit much.

If you love it go for it though, there's nothing "wrong" with it that will cause any problems.

Personally I think if going with Skye then the second name needs to not be a nature name but this is just me.

Skye Harper?

daisypond · 03/07/2022 07:49

If you want something bohemian, whatever that really means, you need to get as far away from Rai/Ray as possible. You could go to town:
Magenta
Topaz
Ariadne
Seraphina
Andromeda
Io
Hero
Terpsichore

Terpsichore and Io???

Behave!

Harper to me sounds like you are coping Posh Spice. Skye is boring and a dog's name.

I do like Andromeda though. I like all the Harry Potter wizard names but didn't dare use them.
