Our first child, a boy, is due in October and we are really struggling to agree. We both like’ lots of names but I’m not sure we love any.

Family members have commented that some of these are a bit ‘odd’ (‘what’s wrong with James’ etc). I think my partners current favourites are Fox or River but I couldn’t bear people snorting when we introduce our beautiful baby!

Atlas
Avery
Blaze
Caspian
Eli
Elias
Evander
Forest
Fox
Harper
Issac
River
Sebastian
Shiloh
Theodore
Winter (this was our 100% choice for a girl, but we’re not sure it fits for a boy)

my favourites from your list are

Caspian
Sebastian
Atlas

winter is quite a popular boys name (Ds has 3 in his year) so would definitely work for a boy

Teaandcrumpets95 · 01/07/2022 15:49

From your list I really like:

Isaac
Sebastian
Theodore

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2022 15:52

OK, well firstly you might want to reconsider Avery, Harper, Shiloh and Winter as they are more known as girls' names.

Don't use names you can't spell, ie Isaac.

The rest are fine if you like them, some aren't out there at all.

Best not to discuss with family or friends before baby has arrived and is named, it never goes well!

Frida9 · 01/07/2022 15:56

Sebastian or Theodore, Theo is cute

SuziSecondLaw · 01/07/2022 15:57

Caspian, shortened to Cas.
Theodore
Sebastian

Patronising much? Issac is a variation of the more common Isaac. But just because OP has chosen the less common spelling, it doesn’t mean she can’t spell. Not even the point of the OP.

AprilRae91 · 01/07/2022 15:59

Typo alert ‘Isaac’

Blaze is awful btw

AprilRae91 · 01/07/2022 16:04

@DramaAlpaca yes I wondered about Avery, Harper and Shiloh being feminine. I thought they were boys names, but the second two have been used by celebrities for their daughters

I Love Elias
They're all nice
Winter is usually a girl though

From your list I really like:

Isaac
Sebastian
Theodore

Same for me. I don't like any of the other names.

ComfyChairPose · 01/07/2022 16:18

SHILOH is always going to remind people of jolie-pitt. Avoid! Agree that shiloh harper and avery seem like girls' names now.
I like Blaze but my son knows one. Theo is nice

TheWayoftheLeaf · 01/07/2022 16:18

I LOVE fox

ComfyChairPose · 01/07/2022 16:19

"Fox" is one i like now but fear it might sound like your Da saying "ooh bit of a hottie" in ten years.

DogsAndGin · 01/07/2022 16:20

Atlas or Caspian

pinklavenders · 01/07/2022 16:21

I like Caspian. Elias and Fox.

caringcarer · 01/07/2022 16:29

My nephew has fox as his middle name because his Dad supports Leicester Football Club, and they are known as the foxes.

1moreyear · 01/07/2022 16:32

I like Avery and Winter. Both on my fantasy (no more babies) name list.

I would have actually had winter for about but my 3rd was a girl so it's her middle name.

Beautiful names and actually Avery Winter are great together!

ComfyChairPose · 01/07/2022 17:08

I feel like Winter is a girls name.
I like unisex names on boys though.
Love Kim, Sacha, Jesse, Shelby, Dara

DuchessOfSausage · 01/07/2022 17:29

Atlas - no
Avery - no
Blaze - Blaise is nice
Caspian - fine
Eli - no keen
Elias - not keen
Evander - no
Forest - gump. no
Fox - ok
Harper - no
Issac - no
River - no
Sebastian - no
Shiloh - no
Theodore - no
Winter - no

AmandaMirandaPanda · 01/07/2022 17:43

I like Elias, Eli, and Evander. I'd use Blaise instead of Blaze.

Also quite like River, I don't think it's that "out there" and don't really think of it as more male than female, or vice versa. Shiloh is traditionally both masculine and feminine in Hebrew, but the Jolie etc association may be the first one for a lot of people as it's not that common a name.

MajorCarolDanvers · 01/07/2022 17:49

Elias or Theodore

The rest are mostly pretty out there

MamaFoxToBe · 01/07/2022 17:51

I love River and if my baby's last name wasn't going to be Fox then River would have definitely been on my list

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/07/2022 17:57

Blaze is just awful.
Isaac (spelled properly, not Issac), Sebastian and Theodore are OK.
The others are absolutely dreadful. Sorry.

maeveiscurious · 01/07/2022 18:06

We have two Dc one has a standard name the other is unusual. Remember some of this is pregnancy hormones and you need to think of your DS as a young man and a grown up.

Fox and blaze are cutie names but less so on an adult. If they have an unusual name at some point someone is going to make them feel uncomfortable and then it will come back on you.

You want a name which will carry them through life and that people won't have a strong reaction to.
