Our first child, a boy, is due in October and we are really struggling to agree. We both like’ lots of names but I’m not sure we love any.

Family members have commented that some of these are a bit ‘odd’ (‘what’s wrong with James’ etc). I think my partners current favourites are Fox or River but I couldn’t bear people snorting when we introduce our beautiful baby!

Atlas
Avery
Blaze
Caspian
Eli
Elias
Evander
Forest
Fox
Harper
Issac
River
Sebastian
Shiloh
Theodore
Winter (this was our 100% choice for a girl, but we’re not sure it fits for a boy)

I love Caspian/Cassius/Cassian for a boy. Cass would be a very cool nn for a boy IMO.
Theodore is nice aswell but Theodore/Theo/Teddy is probably one of the most used boys names I’ve been hearing in the last 3 years, in my area at least. I do like the nature type names like River and Forest but I don’t think I’d be brave enough, maybe you are?

SpaceJamtart · 01/07/2022 18:11

I really like Eli and Evander

SheepingStandingUp · 01/07/2022 18:16

Atlas - I mean I wouldn't but I'd think it was kinda cool on someone else
Avery - I love
Blaze - no.
Caspian - gorgeous and Cas is cute too
Eli - fine strong name
Elias - same as above.

Evander- no.
Forest - meh.

Fox - no animals. No.
Harper - girly
Issac - perfectly average name
River - I like
Sebastian - gorgeous and also in the sensible category
Shiloh - no, for either sex
Theodore - lovely and also very mainstream
Winter - I like, it good kooky

Calmondeck · 01/07/2022 19:29

I really like Eli and Sebastian (Bastian)

PurBal · 01/07/2022 19:31

Caspian

itsgettingweird · 01/07/2022 19:41

There not all totally out there - some more than others but all acceptable.

My favourites are

Issac
Sebastian
Theodore
River
Winter
Harder
Blaze

The others are a bit too different for my taste but I wouldn't batter an eyelid if someone used them!

itsgettingweird · 01/07/2022 19:44

Although if you like Elias what about Elliot?

Elliot Fox sounds great and actually quite masculine!

RoseMartha · 01/07/2022 19:56

From your list I like
Eli
Issac
Theodore

shouldbesleepingnotscrolling · 01/07/2022 19:59

Personally Id go with:
1)Sebastian
2)Isaac
3)Theodore
4)Caspian

None of the others!

HuntingoftheSnark · 01/07/2022 20:17

I love Caspian. I only know one, and for a while I kept thinking "Prince" but now I just think it's a lovely, little used name.

Penguinsaregreat · 01/07/2022 20:28

I think of Winter as a masculine name.
I think that’s my favourite.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/07/2022 20:46

Atlas - ok, but carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders..
Avery - it’s a girls name
Blaze - spelt properly as Blaise I like it
Caspian - nice, like Cassian better
Eli - great if short for Elijah or Elisha
Elias - great
Evander - no
Forest - hard no. No no no.
Fox - no
Harper - it’s a girls name op
Issac - nice, solid
River - nah, naff
Sebastian - nice, solid
Shiloh - it’s a girls name again OP
Theodore - way overused
Winter (this was our 100% choice for a girl, but we’re not sure it fits for a boy) - it’s grim either way. No.

Caspian - I prefer Casper truthfully, but this is ok
Eli
Elias - I prefer Eli, but Elias is cool too.
Evander - I really quite like this one. Unusual without being too unusual iyswim.
Isaac
Sebastian
Theodore - These last 3 were on my own list. Love. Love. Love.

AprilRae91 · 01/07/2022 22:37

@Dyra my cat is Jasper so we had to disregard Casper unfortunately

Awrite · 01/07/2022 22:45

Love:
Sebastian
Theodore (Theo)
Fox (wouldn't be brave enough though)

Like:
Eli
Isaac
Caspian

Not as keen on the rest. I know a baby River. He's almost 1 and I'm still not used to it.

EvergreenForest · 01/07/2022 22:48

If you like Qinter for a girl, how about Wilder for a boy? Similar type names...?

EvergreenForest · 01/07/2022 22:49

*Winter!!

(Feeding baby so typing with one hand 😂)

KirstenBlest · 01/07/2022 22:52

Wilder? Hmm like livid or feral?

Farrell is quite nice

YourWinter · 01/07/2022 22:54

Sebastian or Theodore, Isaac at a push (Zac for short?), the others are all the sort of faddy, silly names celebrities use. Eli is too biblical for my liking.

EvergreenForest · 01/07/2022 22:55

I like to think of it as 'untamed' or 'free'

Jellybean23 · 01/07/2022 22:59

Not keen on any of those, sorry. Some just don't suit a grown man.

RobynNora · 01/07/2022 22:59

Strong list. Love Atlas, Avery and Eli.

Not as keen on Fox, Blaze or Winter.

I know two little Rivers and nobody snorts in laughter. Phoenix maybe popularised it.

I know too many little Theos to count but the name is beautiful so that’s no bad thing.

Love Jasper too! You've got great taste in naming kitties too.

Ouchmytoe100 · 02/07/2022 08:46

Atlas - I quite like this. It's sort of cool, but also makes it into a lot of 'Hipster Baby Names' lists on naming sites, which puts me off a bit.
Avery - it's a girl's name
Blaze - spelled 'Blaise', it's a saint's name, but spelled like this it's got a chavvy vibe.
Caspian - this is an amazing name! I love it. It's uncommon and cool but also classy.
Eli - love it - biblical and strong. I'd assume you were Christian or Jewish (might bother you if you're not?)
Elias - (see comments for Eli - exactly the same thoughts about the two names, except I like Elias a little more as it's rarer and can be shortened to Eli if you want.)
Evander - I like it, I know one. It's cool. I don't like it as much as the above three, but I still like it.)
Forest - Gump
Fox - 100% no. Animal names like this are a bit cheesy and will date badly.
Harper - is a girl's name
Issac - lovely and classic but very popular.
River - I don't like it. It's a bit cheesy. Also sounds very feminine to me
Sebastian - lovely, strong name.
Shiloh - i know it's unisex but I'd not use this for a boy, it seems very feminine
Theodore - please not yet another Theodore
Winter - it's a girl's name

My very favourite number 1 names are:
Elias and Caspian

Second place:
Evander, Isaac, Eli, Sebastian

100% no, really dislike (either in general, or for a boy): River, Fox, Shiloh, Blaze, Winter, Harper, Avery

Other suggetions based on your choices:
Cassius
Cassian
Orion
Isaiah
Gabriel
Rudy
Jude
