Classic but unusual boy names?

withacherryonthetop · 24/04/2022 14:26

Is this even a possible combo? Asking for friend who is having a boy. She likes more traditional or biblical names- think Isaac, Caleb, Abel, Henry etc. her dh likes more unique/modern names like neo and jaxon. Any suggestions on names that are traditional but not mega common would be great. Or any names that might be a middle ground! She is 37 weeks so not long left to decide! Thanks

I like Ezra, I didn't realise it was an 'old' name till I was walking round an old cemetery and seen a few graves 100+ years old with the name on Blush

lemmein · 24/04/2022 18:55

Overuse of the word 'old' there Blush

But yeah, it's an old name - not just George's surname!

I love Blaise. Blaze, even. Just like it.

Also Asa.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 24/04/2022 20:43

Blaise is good because it's a saint's name (trad) but it also sounds a bit modern and lightning bolty.

withacherryonthetop · 24/04/2022 20:47

Thanks, some fab names here for me to pass on!

Our little boy is called Ezra.

I know someone up thread said it’s “super popular” but I think you’ll get that with most names in certain places. I’ve never met nor heard of another Ezra, everyone I’ve told his name to thinks it’s a lovely, unusual name.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 24/04/2022 20:55

Barnaby, Barney for short.

Since when is Jacob unusual? It's quite common around my area. Traditional and can be shortened to Jake which I like.

It's actually his middle name Grin

I have an Ezra, I didn't realise it was old or religious when we chose it, we just liked it and our only criteria was uncommon but not weird.

I don't think it's super popular either! We have an Ezra and like you, we have never met or heard of another Ezra and everyone also gives compliments, saying what a lovely name and how much it suits him.
