Useable? Yes or No?
Is it too much linked to the biblical reference (prostitute)? Or do you think people are over all that now?
Would love to hear your thoughts. Delilah would be sister Noah.

Gosh no it’s got Tom Jones written all over it! I also think that the lyrics are quite dark!

Viviennemary · 25/03/2022 22:22

Its dire. Please don't.

nearlyspringyay · 25/03/2022 22:22

HomecomingKween · 25/03/2022 22:24

Lots of people clearly think it's useable these days.

RuthW · 25/03/2022 23:00

Lovely.

Travellingraspberry · 25/03/2022 23:12

I like it. Also like Delaina, similar without the Tom Jones vibe

RaininSummer · 25/03/2022 23:12

What about Della instead. My mum had a lovely Italian friend called Della.

purpleme12 · 25/03/2022 23:15

I know someone who named their child Delilah
I like it though
And I like the song so that wouldn't put me off!

Della is lovely! Quite different too.
Peakypolly · 25/03/2022 23:22

The (gorgeous) little Delilah I know is two and already sings the 'My, my, my Delilah' line because so many people sing it to her! Doesn't put me off the name though, I think it is lovely.

I think it's gorgeous! I don't think the song is so much well known with the younger generations nowadays as much anyway and may even fade with time.

The Delilah in the atom Jones song was called that for a reason and that’s because the association with a cheating woman or prostitute comes from the original Delilah in the Bible who deprived Samson of his strength.
Irrespective of whether the majority of people are no longer particularly religious, such stories area part of our Western culture and folk with a basic education would be aware of it.

Kanaloa · 25/03/2022 23:42

I think it’s very useable. I looked after a little Irish Delilah. It suited her and I don’t remember any issues or even comments around her name. Rather than Tom Jones many people would sing hey there Delilah.

Allusernamesalreadyused · 26/03/2022 00:00

Oohh not sure about Delilah and brother Noah. Della is gorgeous name. Actually knew a girl called Della years ago. Unusual name but classy Smile

Kite22 · 26/03/2022 00:10

I wouldn't because of everyone feeling the need to sing the Tom Jones song about stalking, every time it is mentioned, more than the biblical connection.

Rosemary2022 · 26/03/2022 00:53

If you like the name but are worried about the association have you considered Daliah or Dahlia.

willwewontwe · 26/03/2022 01:06

I did love this name but I work in a business personalising baby items and I’ve done three Delilahs just in the last few days. Delilah and Margot just seem to be one after another just now (did love it too) but I think a lot of these babies aren’t even born yet so it’s going to be very popular this year! If you love it and don’t care about popularity anyway then go for it

delshell · 26/03/2022 06:56

The connection with the biblical character would definitely put me off. Many people in the younger generation may be oblivious to the connotations but lots of people definitely wouldn't be!

Joystir59 · 26/03/2022 06:58

Great name, and I know an eight year old Delilah who is a strong feisty confident happy child.
