Useable? Yes or No?
Is it too much linked to the biblical reference (prostitute)? Or do you think people are over all that now?
Would love to hear your thoughts. Delilah would be sister Noah.

I love it.

I was dissuaded from naming DD Alice, due the links to a particular song. Looking back it's so daft and I really regret it.

sassyduck · 26/03/2022 16:29

Lovely name.

CallMeNutribullet · 26/03/2022 16:31

Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take any more

Was it that one "Alice? Who the fuck is Alice?!"?
CallMeNutribullet · 26/03/2022 16:36

The Tom Jones song is really grim when you think about it. Man murders woman because she "drove him to it"

seadreams · 26/03/2022 16:36

Also thinking of the plain white T's song first! Would never have come up with the biblical reference and only thought of the Tom Jones song on reading the thread but that still wouldn't put me off! I think its a lovely name

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 26/03/2022 17:24

I absolutely love Delilah.

Some older people will mention the Tom Jones song but there’s a reference for every name if you look hard enough. I’d think of the Plain White T’s song Hey There Delilah first anyway.

Was on my list and will likely use it if we have a second girl

Older people, eh?

My first thought was the Tom Jones song and I'm in my 20s.

beans1992 · 26/03/2022 18:30

@UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName agree. OP ignore the dinosaurs and just go for it. She can always use Lilah if it’s that big of an issue.

I bet half the people using Old Testament boy names could not tell you their origins. They are just nice sounding names people use because they are sick of the same old Tom/Emily types. In reality if someone introduced themselves as ‘Delilah’ no one would think anything. It’s a name AND it’s very popular now so she will be in good company.

peacocktail · 26/03/2022 18:33

It is a beautiful name and the talk of Tom Jones is ridiculous

robocracker · 26/03/2022 19:06

I know a Delilah, she totally owns the name and no one in her age group (year 6) knows anything about Tom Jones so it's really not a problem. Would be more an issue with people her grandparents ages! It's a beautiful name and unusual but not ridiculous!

Why is it ridiculous ? The OP has said she would love to hear people's thoughts. Many people on this thread have said that song springs into mind with a very strong association to the name. (and they are not all "old" people, my dc in their teens and 20s all love a bit of Tom Jones). It is also sung at the rugby, so a lot of sports fans will make the association potentially without knowing who sang the song.

Now, if the OP doesn't mind that, then that is all good - she will still use it.
But it isn't 'ridiculous' for people to answer the question.

OP ignore the dinosaurs and just go for it

Is that how you operate in life?
Someone offers a different opinion from yours, so you tell people to ignore them, and start insulting them ? Hmm

MyLifeNow20 · 27/03/2022 22:11

My DD aged 7 is Delilah, absolutely love the name, she gets so many compliments, sometimes someone will sing my my my and it goes over my head.
Occasinally I call her Dee Dee, hate Della, she hates Lilah so pretty much Delilah all the time

MyLifeNow20 · 27/03/2022 22:13

Actually I do call her Lilley (Li lee) not sure how I came up with that but its stuck, same as my DD2 is Georgina but Genie

bloominglovelyorange · 27/03/2022 22:39

Great name

Blueberry40 · 27/03/2022 23:10

It’s a stunning name, I will never have a dd but it would absolutely be my choice if I did. Will have to make do with plan B which is to get a cat and name her Delilah- like Freddie Mercury!

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 28/03/2022 15:25

Is there another?
