Catherine

We just want a very classic name and Catherine seems very underused which we like.
NN Cate, don't like Kitty or Cath/Cathy.

What's the general opinion?

Love it.

SushiShopSearch · 18/03/2022 23:56

Beautiful and stylish

Mumoftwoinprimary · 18/03/2022 23:58

I would go with Katherine and Kate but it is a lovely name.

katielou987 · 19/03/2022 00:03

Classic elegant beautiful name x

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 19/03/2022 00:07

My name is Catherine so I'm biased. I was called Cathy for a number of years which I didn't mind too much. It was common in my work environment for peoples names to be shortened.
I now go by Cath or Catherine. Cath is more an affectionate name for me. My dad calls me that and other special peopleSmile
She'll decide for herself what her name will be I suppose.
I like the name Catherine though even though I only use it on official forms etc and occasionally if I'm feeling a bit formal.

Kite22 · 19/03/2022 00:11

I do like Catherine, but I think if you don't like Cath or Cathy then I would use Kathryn, or Katherine.

I have a colleague called Kate whose full name is Catherine, and it confuses everyone (for example when looking for her on the e-mail list)

NoSquirrels · 19/03/2022 00:11

It’s beautiful. Go for it.

Nicoise · 19/03/2022 00:13

Can't go wrong with Catherine. Lovely name.

backtothestarting · 19/03/2022 00:22

My name is Catherine and I'm known as Kate to family/work/partner etc. during school I got called Cathy (which my mum hated) but those friends now call me Cath as we got older

backtothestarting · 19/03/2022 00:24

Oh I actually hated my name growing up, seemed so old fashioned all my friends were Nicola's, Kelly's, Lisa's etc but now I actually quite like it and introduce myself as either Catherine or Kate

MaChienEstUnDick · 19/03/2022 00:53

Catherine is a beautiful name, but as always - you can't control the nicknames, so if Cath, Cathy or the (lovely) Kitty would really, really bug you - then choose another name.

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2022 01:03

It's a really beautiful name.

caringcarer · 19/03/2022 01:05

Catherine is a lovely classical name. You did will decide if she is known as Kate, Catch, Cathy or kitty. My dd is known as Cat.

crimblecrumbles · 19/03/2022 07:48

Love it. But agree with not liking Cathy too much, seems a little dated today. I know a Catherine who is a Caggy.

canyoubelievethat · 19/03/2022 08:01

Love it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/03/2022 08:07

It’s lovely. And underused for sure.

I prefer the Katharine spelling, personally

PaddleBoardingMomma · 19/03/2022 08:17

I named my 7 month old Catherine, we get a lot of compliments! I'm not a fan of the diminutive cath or Katie, but love Kate.

BertieBotts · 19/03/2022 08:26

Love it and the Catherines I know are Cat, Cate or just Catherine.

keiratwiceknightly · 19/03/2022 08:28

I have a Catherine nicknamed Cassie. It's great name, strong and classic.

Spudyoulikeit · 19/03/2022 08:29

I love it but only really like the nickname Cate / Kate. Not keen on Cat or Cathy!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/03/2022 08:29

Catherine is lovely. You can try for Cate, but she will be called whatever she is called.

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/03/2022 09:06

Its lovely then I prefer the K spellings. I knew quite a few in my teens circa 2002 but I only know two little ones. One is Katherine and goes by Katy (she's 5). The other is Katharine and goes by Kitty (she's 2)

KylieCharlene · 19/03/2022 09:08

I like it on b.c but I'd use Cate from the start as I prefer it to the full Catherine.

FluffMagnet · 19/03/2022 09:12

Also here to put in a punt for Katharine as a spelling alternative.

speckledeggshell · 19/03/2022 10:02

Good name. Perhaps a bit dull but some of the best are.
