Hi all,

36 weeks now and still deciding on a name for our little girl!

Our current front-runners are Robyn and Cassie, however I just watched a film with a character in it called Tally and think I really like it!

What's everyone's thoughts??

It sounds very nicknamey. The only Tally I’ve ever come across was actually a Natalie.

Sirzy · 13/03/2022 11:15

I would use it as a nickname but not as the name itself personally.

Squeakerfoot · 13/03/2022 11:17

It's nice as a nickname for Natalia/Natalie or Talia.

Salvia89 · 13/03/2022 11:17

Hmmm... I can only think of it being a nickname for Natalie or Tallulah.. neither of which I particularly like.

It's got all the hallmarks of a name I'll love for a couple of days and then wonder what I was thinking!

I know a Tally and her actual name is Talulah

WhatsitWiggle · 13/03/2022 11:17

I know a Tally, nn for the Hebrew name Talia.

daisypond · 13/03/2022 11:19

Not as a name in itself. It’s not very inspirational- tally something up. It’s very accountant-y. Ok if short for something.

DoorLion · 13/03/2022 11:21

If the film was Up Close and Personal, I think the character’s real name was Sally.
I don’t know. I kind of like it but it does seem a bit like a nickname but if you are also thinking of Cassie that’s probably not an issue. And I know a girl called Mally which I think is lovely and Sally was originally a nickname for Sarah so I guess Tally would be OK.

EverythingWillB3OK · 13/03/2022 11:23

I think of keeping tally. I don't like it I'm afraid. Callie? NN for Callista?

Hummingbirdcake · 13/03/2022 11:24

There’s a Tally in a book whose official name is Talitha.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 13/03/2022 11:25

I think it could work as a nn for Tara (Sally originally being a nn for Sarah) but not on its own.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/03/2022 11:25

It gives the vibe of one of those posh girl nicknames- they’re called day to day something like Binky or Solly but their real name is Callista or Caliope.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/03/2022 11:27

I like it. Talulah and Talia, too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/03/2022 11:29

I like it but would spell it Tallie

I'd use it as a shortening for Talitha

But also like
Tallulah
Natalia and Natalie

estoybien · 13/03/2022 11:32

I do like Tally except for the Tally Ho thing. I think Cassie is nicer though.

Snowbell99 · 13/03/2022 11:34

I'm sorry but I find it really silly as a full name. She will grow up. Tallie looks a little bit better. In my opinion, Ellie would be fine, but Tally sounds a bit ridiculous, use it as a nickname if you love it. Same with Cassie.

Robin is nice (reminds me of the bird) but I dislike the Y in Robyn. It makes it look trendy.

I would choose Robin or you could name her Talia which is a Hebrew name and call her Tali or Tallie?

By the way, there is a really cheap fashion label that is huge (with billboards everywhere) in some countries in Europe called Tally Weijl. Would avoid.

Yika · 13/03/2022 11:38

I like Robyn and Cassie very much. Tally not really. It sounds a bit made up / silly.

Robyn with a y is the usual spelling for a girl. Robin for a boy.
tearinghairout · 13/03/2022 11:39

I also thought of Tally Ho, in fact I knew an unpleasant person who happened to give his hound that name. I like Talia though, which I expect would get shortened.

MRSAHILL · 13/03/2022 11:42

I'm Cally, always loved it and never met another one.

Amrapaali · 13/03/2022 11:43

No.

There used to be an accounting software caked Tally. Aeons ago. I can even remember their font.

Snowbell99 · 13/03/2022 11:44

Robin can also be used for girls, it's a nature name and much better than Robyn to me which feels dated.

In the US Robin was super common for girls also, I just don't like sticking that Y in there it looks so trendy.

FantasticFebruary · 13/03/2022 11:44

@Yika. That was traditional y for a girl & i for a boy, but now things seems quite mixed.

I like Robin with a i for a girl

Cassie & Tally I'd use as nicknames.

PancakeBae · 13/03/2022 11:44

Definitely Tally Ho.

Floralnomad · 13/03/2022 11:46

There is a character in an episode of Midsommer Murders called Tallis which is different but nice .
