Hi all,

36 weeks now and still deciding on a name for our little girl!

Our current front-runners are Robyn and Cassie, however I just watched a film with a character in it called Tally and think I really like it!

What's everyone's thoughts??

Hmm! Sounds like a mostly no then!

I don’t think I’m that keen on any of the long names tbh, so will probably revert to the original names.

On the Robin/Robyn debate, it seems like lots of people on mumsnet seem to be dead against the Robyn spelling, but in the real world Robyn is much more common spelling. I like both, but DP very much prefers Robyn which I’m happy to go with 😊.

I know a Tali pronounced as you've written it, it's short for Talitha. It's ok... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hercisback · 13/03/2022 22:09

😂 That Robyn is both trendy yet dated.

Tally reminds me of tally chart.

WeasilyPleased · 13/03/2022 22:33

I prefer Robyn for a girl and some prefer Robin which looks wimpier and a bit wet imho.
Each to their own though. Do you like Cassia OP?

TatianaBis · 13/03/2022 22:48

I really like the name Talitha which more elegant than Tabitha. Tally as a nn fine.

Not keen on Robyn however you spell it - it’s very twee.

Nikolaus · 14/03/2022 09:26

Tilly is fine, so Tally also must be, it's only one letter different! Perfectly fine as a whole name.

Salvia89 · 14/03/2022 10:01

Yes, Robyn seems to be trendy and dated and twee and feisty! Completely depends who you talk to 🤣. We like it though.

Cassia is also a very popular mumsnet suggestion (and I really like it) but I put it to DP who thought it was weird as he’d never heard it… turns out there were only 31 born in the uk last year (#1065 in the charts!).

Don’t think I like Talitha.. the only time I’ve heard it was on a horrid character in a series so have bad associations.

Still quite like Tally.. has more substance than Tilly which to me is a bit twee. Very much doubt we’ll use it though - I’ll put it on the list for the next dog Smile

How about Tabby short for Tabitha?

I don't like Robyn as there's so many trending Ro-- names, particularly for boys

Cassie is nice

Trinacham · 14/03/2022 12:22

I immediately though tally-ho! I really like both Robyn and Cassie.

bloominglovelyorange · 14/03/2022 12:27

@Salvia89 yes always depends who you talk to! Robyn feels trendy to me as there's so many Ronnie, Rory and Romans etc these days. All in the top 50 and Roman now catapulted to top 30. All individually very different names but when there's one of each in a class, it does get confusing. Still a nice name though!

thebellsesmereldathebells · 14/03/2022 12:31

It would be OK as a shortening for Tallullah or Natalie or Natalia, or Talia, or Anatalia

It isn't a name on its own, it's a word.

spiderlight · 14/03/2022 14:59

I know a Tallie, short for Talitha. Really like it.

Emmelina · 14/03/2022 15:02

I wouldn’t use it as a full name. I’ve heard it as a nn for Natalia and it worked when she was small, but as a teenager she definitely prefers Natalia now.

muddyford · 14/03/2022 15:56

I know an English pointer called Tally.

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/03/2022 17:08

I only know it as a nn for Natalia or Nathalie. It's nice as a nn, but I wouldn't as a full name.

Same for Cassie - I really like it as a nn for Cassia or Cassandra, but wouldn't want it to be my full name.

I really like Robin, it's a unisex nature name - that spelling is fine for a girl (Robyn is a 70s spelling and unnecessary IMO).

ImALittleBitAlexis · 15/03/2022 09:22

I have a relative named Talla. Never been nicknamed Tally but that could work!

demoness · 15/03/2022 09:26

I've never heard of Tally as a name. It doesn't sound like a formal name to me. I would be a bit concerned about teasing potential, if teenagers are aware of the expression "tally ho" and start calling her "Ho"...

DoorLion · 15/03/2022 10:12

Weirdly since first reading this thread I’ve started reading a book to DS where a character is called Tally - short for Talisman!

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/03/2022 10:13

Love Tally.
