Expecting baby boy number 2. We both like the name Cyril. But I am a little worried that my hormones are playing a part.
Brothers name is John.

Squirrel

Peridot1 · 02/02/2022 08:43

No. It’s awful. Sorry.

And yes - squirrel.

LovelyQuiche · 02/02/2022 08:44

I really wouldn’t. He’ll get bullied as a teenager and probably hate it
I know this because a family member has that name

Santahasjoinedww · 02/02/2022 08:45

How about Cyrus?

toastofthetown · 02/02/2022 08:45

While it’s not my favourite name, it’s quite refreshing and it works well with John. It’s not awful as other posters have said, thought it’s not a name which is popular or rising in popularity at the moment.

cloverleafy · 02/02/2022 08:45

Squirrel. Maisy mouse's friend. Sorry.

thevassal · 02/02/2022 08:47

Urgh. sounds like the obnoxious invalid child in a victorian children's novel.

WishIwasElsa · 02/02/2022 08:49

I don't like it to be honest sorry

Gabbiadini · 02/02/2022 08:49

I think not only does it make me think of Maisy’s friend Cyril the Squirrel, but also children will just think his name is actually Squirrel. I actually prefer the name Squirrel.

HoldingTheDoor · 02/02/2022 08:49

It's awful. Wet and unattractive.

Bundlebuns · 02/02/2022 08:50

It makes me think of Cyril Sneer from The Raccoons

SalonSharon · 02/02/2022 08:51

I think of Cyril Smith.

As an 80s child it also reminds me of Cyril Sneer from the Racoons.

I too prefer Squirrel.

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/02/2022 08:52

Makes me think of Cyril Smith. I wouldn't want to associate my child with that name because of him.

Cyrus suggested by a pp is a better alternative.

Lemonweightloss · 02/02/2022 08:52

Not to my taste. Love a pp's suggestion of Cyrus.
Love John. It's so refreshing. How about Peter?

Allpenguinsarepingus · 02/02/2022 08:53

No. Not a fan.

Allpenguinsarepingus · 02/02/2022 08:54

Cedric?

TriciaMcMillan · 02/02/2022 08:55

Oh for an edit button... 'Raccoons'

IslaRoseGraceEtc · 02/02/2022 08:59

Not keen. It does just sound wishy washy.

I have a toddler John too and its a hard name to match because it's so great. Names on our list for dc2 (who ended up being a girl) were Guy, Paul, Hugh, Peter.

Magenta82 · 02/02/2022 09:08

My grandad always went by Cyril, it was his middle name but all his family (and my nan's) used middle names.
I lived my grandad very much, but his name was ridiculous!

Loved! I loved him very much.
MrsSkylerWhite · 02/02/2022 09:10

I think Jacob Rees-Mogg looks like a “Cyril”.

MyGlassKeepsLeaking · 02/02/2022 09:12

No, it's an old man's name. I had 2 Uncle Cyrils, when I was a child, and I'm in my 60s now

ThePennyJustDropped · 02/02/2022 09:15

John is such a strong name, and to me Cyril as his brother would be short changed in the name department. Cyril isn't dreadful but I would worry it's polarising and he might feel envious of John's name.

I think something like David or James or Magnus.

SpringSparrow · 02/02/2022 09:17

I don’t think anyone would thank you for lumbering them with a name like Cyril. I don’t like it. Reminds me of Cyril Smith. Is it having a comeback? Thinking of names from the 1930’s which sound a bit better, Charles, Stanley, Robert, Hugh, Christopher.
