Evelyn for boy?

Zephyrswing · 24/01/2022 15:32

Any thoughts please?

His brothers are Albert, Arthur, Edward, and Ernest. I know— I know— too much a and e. I didn’t pick ‘Evelyn’ because there’s an e, but I just like the name. Does the name go well with his siblings’. Any names suggestion?

Opinions and suggestions are appreciated! Thank you in advance.

You're having 5 boys?! Wow.

I like Evelyn- reminds me of Evelyn Waugh.

loves2plan · 24/01/2022 15:39

I love Evelyn as a name, but I would say I've never heard it for a boy. What about Alastair? Or something similar to Evelyn like Evren

PurBal · 24/01/2022 15:41

I absolutely adore Evelyn as a boys name but I think it’s been done to death for girls now that it might cause bullying. So sad as it makes such a great boys name.

PurBal · 24/01/2022 15:42

How about Norman?

Blubells · 24/01/2022 15:43

I think at this point it's one of those names, like Lesley and Shirley, that is widely perceived as being just a girls' name. I think it would be a ballache being a boy called Evelyn.

Roadhouse111 · 24/01/2022 15:44

No definitely not for a boy, oblnow it can be a boys name and I know the theme you're aiming for but I think, much Stacey and Lindsay, it's now seen as a girls name rather than a boys.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 24/01/2022 15:46

I would just say this, when I was a child we were driving somewhere in the West Country, my dad an Evelyn Waugh fan, asked a local if he knew where he had lived, the reply from that person "she never lived around here" Therein lies the problem, particularly as quite a few people won't have heard of that author, Evelyn is generally perceived as a female name.

mumofEandE · 24/01/2022 15:46

Please don't - It's lovely but not for a boy anymore!
How about:
Edmund

viques · 24/01/2022 15:56

Auden, Alan, Alex, Aubrey, Arnold

Edwin, Ewan,Elliot, Eric.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/01/2022 15:58

What about Vaughan?

It's kinda, sorta in the same vibe.

Pegasussnail · 24/01/2022 15:58

Emmet
Evan ?
Austin would go really well with your other boys names. They are lovely.

Diggersaursarethebest · 24/01/2022 16:01

Everyone who sees his name written down (eg every new teacher) will assume he’s a girl. This is likely to annoy him hugely.

sweetbellyhigh · 24/01/2022 16:03

Love it.

GingerScallop · 24/01/2022 16:07

Enock. Alexander. Aubergine, Aubrey

I know you didn't ask for suggestions but ..

Lemonweightloss · 24/01/2022 16:08

@Zephyrswing, love your boys' names. 5 boys, wow !!
I love Evelyn but not for your boy. I had an Aunty Evelyn whom I adored so it's a special name for me. I just think it's too much for a boy. It shouldn't be but that was my first thought.
I love a pp suggestion of Edmund. It's lovely.

GingerScallop · 24/01/2022 16:08

@GingerScallop

Enock. Alexander. Aubergine, Aubrey

I know you didn't ask for suggestions but ..

Auberon not Aubergine. Damn you autocorrect!
Marblessolveeverything · 24/01/2022 16:12

What about Emlyn?

Toomuch2do · 24/01/2022 16:14

I love it

Lemonweightloss · 24/01/2022 16:14

@GingerScallop 🤣🤣

bitchinofhitchen · 24/01/2022 16:14

No. It's too overused for girls now. It'll look like you wanted a girl but got a boy

CPL593H · 24/01/2022 16:19

Trouble is Evelyn has recently come round on the 100 year cycle and is being used for girls (it was never a common boys name) I wouldn't, loads of good alternatives of sort you like. I love Edmund and Edwin but possibly a bit close to your Edward. William? Frederick?

Soubriquet · 24/01/2022 16:21

These days, I don’t think it’s appropriate for a boy. He would be nicknamed Evie and picked on for having a girls name

averythinline · 24/01/2022 16:22

Fredrick Felix
Surely you must be up to Fs now :)

Or if you follow your earlier sequence will be at I so
Isaac,Idris, Ivan

Please not Evelyn...I know there's historic Evelyn's and if your 1st then fine but as your 5th and currently is a girls name mostly he will get a lot of gender disappointment comments..

Santahasjoinedww · 24/01/2022 16:24

Aubergine has a ring to it!! Aub for short! I went to school with a male Kelly. Years of mocking.. Emery?
