Harriet or Cora?

Due DD2 in 2 months. We were quite settled on Harriet as her name and liked the options of nicknames (Hettie/Hattie/Ettie/Harrie). My DH has just suggested Cora as an alternative. I am torn as I think Cora is a beautiful name but gives less options. What are your thoughts?

Love Harriet

SE13Mummy · 30/12/2021 19:44

Another vote for Harriet.

I tend to prefer longer names that give multiple options for nicknames.

qazxc · 30/12/2021 19:44

Both are lovely, I prefer Cora.

flingoo · 30/12/2021 19:45

I'm the proud parent of a Harriet. She usually goes by Harry or Hattie. We still love her name

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/12/2021 19:45

I love Harriet NN Hattie

Cora is ok, I've always felt it sounds a bit harsh

DemBonesDemBones · 30/12/2021 19:45

Jasharps · 30/12/2021 19:46

yikesanotherbooboo · 30/12/2021 19:47

Cora feels a bit fashionable/ faddish to me. I prefer Bora. Harriet is great

GrendelsGrandma · 30/12/2021 19:49

Cora. Harriet is a bit too Boden/Kath Kidston for my liking

Immaculatemisconception · 30/12/2021 19:49

Harriet.

DemBonesDemBones · 30/12/2021 19:51

I do love the nicknames Harry and Hattie though.

Happenchance · 30/12/2021 19:53

Harriet. I don't like Cora but think Coraline is OK.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2021 19:53

I much prefer Harriet.

JSL52 · 30/12/2021 19:54

Harriet with the diminutive Hattie. I know a Cora and it puts me off.

SilverOtter · 30/12/2021 19:55

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 30/12/2021 19:55

Cora

Mommabear20 · 30/12/2021 19:56

Personally prefer Cora but it has become quite popular recently due to Downton Abbey, so depends how you feel about that.

PurplePansy05 · 30/12/2021 19:57

Definitely Cora. More sophisticated, and every Harriet I know is mean!

Useruseruserusee · 30/12/2021 19:58

I love Cora. Sadly it rhymes with our surname so was never an option, and we had 2 boys anyway. But it’s beautiful.

DoucheCanoe · 30/12/2021 19:58

Harriet NN Harri.

I really dislike Cora, it sounds very harsh to me.

LavenderRosemary · 30/12/2021 19:59

Both lovely names, but slightly prefer Harriet as I love the nickname Hattie.
