I like it, DH is unconvinced.

Love it! It is a strong quality name!

Cissyandflora · 06/11/2021 14:25

The bee gees were originally known as Horace Maurice and Boris. So I think it works if you have three boys. But not so good with just Horace. It misses something.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/11/2021 14:25

4 recorded births last year. www.ukbabynames.com/boys/horace Looks like we have two of the parents here! Grin

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/11/2021 14:28

Makes me think of Slughorn. Not sure it’s due a comeback sorry OP.

Did one of these brothers have a motorbike and lived in town beginning with L

Skyla2005 · 06/11/2021 14:37

This has to be a joke

stingofthebutterfly · 06/11/2021 14:38

God no. What is it with all the utterly awful baby names that are around at the moment? There are loads that are classic and beautiful, then you get people naming their kids Bertha, Agatha, Colin and Horace.

Tummelthecat · 06/11/2021 14:53

Somewhere there is a line between an unusual name and a totally awful one, and I mean this nicely, but you have just crossed the line. Please don’t.
I hope you have a good pregnancy, birth and a beautiful healthy baby called ....anything else! Best wishes x

Verfremdungseffekt · 06/11/2021 14:59

I quite like it. It’s better than the godawful and bizarrely popular George.

I know a young Humphrey at school with DS, and the coolest elderly man I ever knew was called Humphrey.

MissMaple82 · 06/11/2021 15:13

Oh dear lord no

HBomberGal · 06/11/2021 15:13

Ah would you stop OP Grin That's a funny joke, saddling a lovely baby with a dreadful name.

Shasha17 · 06/11/2021 15:16

I think it might be one of the ugliest names I've ever seen suggested on here Grin sorry OP. A baby Horace will be born wearing a flatcap and a dirty green farmers jacket, with a huge beerbelly, long nose hair, and an unpleasant unwashed smell.

TheCreamCaker · 06/11/2021 15:18

It's awful, sorry

Timeforwinterclothes · 06/11/2021 15:22

A relative of mine was named Horace. It was because they thought it would please Uncle Horace and he would leave my relative all his money. Little did they know that Uncle had secret children. My relative was never ever called by this name as it was considered so hideous and this was over a hundred years ago. He used his second name which luckily was fine. He had a lifetime of embarrassment though.

Bellfor · 06/11/2021 15:26

@EnidFrighten

I kind of like it but I guess it's a bad name for an introvert

I think Maurice is due a comeback too

Ooooo I like Maurice!

Penguinsmum · 06/11/2021 15:32

I love it. Unusual without being odd imo.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 06/11/2021 15:33

Horace/Horatio are both awful! Hugo isn’t great either.

sageandbasil · 06/11/2021 15:52

Not a fan. Do you like Hector?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/11/2021 15:54

I think it’s cute but can understand why others would hate it.

He could go by Harry?

Onlinedilema · 06/11/2021 15:57

I wouldn't use it.
How about Hugo?

BluebellsareBlue · 06/11/2021 16:03

Oh Jesus that's awful! Surely you don't think this is actually a nice name?!? I think this is getting on the band wagon of old names are trendy and your failing miserably at it

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 06/11/2021 16:05

Maybe in time. It's not a bad name but it'll take another few generations before it'll come back.

FatBettyintheCoop · 06/11/2021 16:07

I think it’s a fab name because the Horace I knew was a genuine WW2 war hero (used his engineering skills to invent secret stuff) and an incredibly amazing wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather.

People were still writing about his many exploits when he was in his 90’s as he was a cycling enthusiast, still drove a car and was involved in several community projects. He always had a big smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He sadly died just a few days short of his 101st birthday. Sad

TheGreenManIsFlashing · 06/11/2021 17:12

Nice to see my child's name getting such a slating.

It only makes me love it more. Grin

MilduraS · 06/11/2021 17:17

Not for a baby boy. It was on my list of names for my new cat.
