Too Schitts Creek?
DP and I have been discussing Moira to add to the Shirley, Doris and Prunella list.

I rather love it, but will everyone immediately think of Schitts Creek. I will get very bored of constantly explaining she's not named after Moira Rose!

I've never seen Schitts Creek and doubt I'm the only one so there will be plenty who don't associate it.

If you like it go with it, TV shows come and go!

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 20/10/2021 04:50

I always think of Moira Dingle from Emmerdale

miltonj · 20/10/2021 05:43

How about Mora instead?

junebirthdaygirl · 20/10/2021 05:52

What about Dorcas if you like Doris?
I like Moira but l have not seen Schittts Creek so no connections for me

mrsevangelina · 20/10/2021 05:54

Yes, Moira Dingle. I've no idea who this other Moira is.

Mollymalone123 · 20/10/2021 05:59

I love Moira and don’t watch either program.Knew a Moira and she was very elegant and had a beautiful Scots accent

Kanaloa · 20/10/2021 06:13

I’m not keen. Never seen Schitt’s Creek though and I don’t think it’s one of those everyone has seen it things where it will immediately be like ‘oh from schitt’s Creek?’ It’s not like calling your child Buffy or something where it will immediately call something to mind.

If I met a young Moira my first thought would be named after a granny or something.

WildCherryBlossom · 20/10/2021 06:38

I have seen Schitts Creek but didn't think of that at all when I saw your thread title.

The first Moira I thought of was from The Pursuit of Love. The central character has a rather unloved daughter called Moira which is a rather sad reference

The other Moira who comes to mind is the newsreader Moira Stuart. Always quite liked her.

AliceinBorderland · 20/10/2021 06:42

Too Handmaid's Tale for me

lottiegarbanzo · 20/10/2021 06:43

DP and I have been discussing Moira to add to the Shirley, Doris and Prunella list. What is this list? Names from the past that seem unlikely to come back?

Moira is slightly less bad than Doris or Prunella but it isn't nice. Sorry.

FelicityPike · 20/10/2021 06:45

I just think of old Scottish grannies.
It’s a lovely, traditional name.

BiscuitLover09876 · 20/10/2021 06:47

Definitely schitts creek but not a bad thing!

MerylSqueak · 20/10/2021 06:50

I think Moira is ok.

Perhaps you'd like Erica or Sylvia? I think they're both really no ice.

SmallWaistFatFace · 20/10/2021 06:52

As long as you feed her non alcoholic fruit wine and refer to her as a bebe then good to go

IDontLikeMondays88 · 20/10/2021 06:53

Moya is also nice

starrynight21 · 20/10/2021 06:54

I think of The Pursuit of Love - poor Moira is the unwanted / unloved daughter of the main character. When baby Moira is heard to cry, her mother states "Oh dear, it must have caught sight of itself in a looking glass" .

mafted · 20/10/2021 07:05

Well I did immediately hear Johnny shouting "Moooiiiirrraa" but that's not a negative thing bebe! It's a cool name.

elfran · 20/10/2021 08:08

I love Moira and Schitt's Creek and had it on my list. Couldn't get it past DH.

Darkdarknights · 20/10/2021 08:09

Moria is bad but slightly better than the others on your list. Don’t call a baby Doris.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 20/10/2021 08:17

It's the best name from your list, OP.

ilovemykids5 · 20/10/2021 09:38

How about Maura?

Cyw2018 · 20/10/2021 09:45

I like Moira. I prefer Myra but ruled that name out for DD for obvious reasons. Mair is the Welsh form of Mary, and is a pretty name of you can roll your R's.

user1493494961 · 20/10/2021 09:52

Not particularly keen on Moira but think it's the nicest on your list (by far).

CliffsofMohair · 20/10/2021 09:55

@SmallWaistFatFace

As long as you feed her non alcoholic fruit wine and refer to her as a bebe then good to go
Dying 😂
KrispyKale · 20/10/2021 09:56

Makes me think of newscaster Moira Stuart.
To my mind a bit different for a baby but I think I'd get used to it pretty quickly.
