What names do you love but wouldn't use

I went for a very safe name for my son. But looking at him now he could pull off Rio which his dad wanted to call him. There were others I loved but felt unfair to saddle a child with

Shilo
Hudon
Shay
Franklyn
Carter
Lorenzo (we have strong northern accents and it would sound ridiculous)
Carey - due a come back
Tate
Ira
Silas

Sydney, for a girl. I absolutely love it, I don't know why. But I just am not brave enough to use it.

bubblebath62636 · 27/10/2021 23:34

Willow- everyone was so rude when I suggested it 😞.

Brent - same as above.

buntywindermere · 27/10/2021 23:51

@JuneJuly

Grover, Vaughn or Murray for boys.

Araminta or Ariadne for girls.

Agree - Araminta, Ariadne and Antigone! I have had two boys and happy with their names. We are hoping to have a third and I'd quite like an Augustine but DH vetoed. (The boys don't have A names by the way!)
SlateCoaster · 27/10/2021 23:59

@MimiDaisy11

I've always loved the name Raphael/Rafael but really I don't think we could pull it off as we're Scottish. I had gone out with Spanish and Italian men in the past and I always thought that'd be a benefit of having a kid with someone from a different culture - that you'd have more names to choose from!
It's actually more difficult. My DP is from another country (we live overseas) and he's suggesting names like Arndale (shopping centre in Manchester).... and I'll say names like Bellamy and he'd turn his nose and say it's baby milk brand, or I love Nova but DP says it's a name of a radio station.

You are doubling the number of not-so-pretty associations.

laurenGame · 29/10/2021 07:04

With two languages you also have the double of weird name translations.

For example I like Arsenii for a boy. Husband said he would get called an arse.

He likes Cecilia for a girl. Unfortunately 'cici' in my language means 'Tits'. And so on. And on and on.

Parfortheparsnip · 29/10/2021 07:06

I really wanted to call my daughter Primrose.
I didn't! And now knowing her I don't think it would have worked. But I love it.

Rosiiiiie · 29/10/2021 07:30

@LadyLolaRuben absolutely love Aspen!! We’re expecting a boy and I suggested it but DH said it was too American and a ‘fashion’ name 😭

Bettyboop3 · 29/10/2021 07:36

Octavia

tilder · 29/10/2021 07:46

I love the name Lilith. It has tricky associations though.

SmallProvincial · 29/10/2021 09:07

#Girls
Aster
Aspen
Clara (to alliterative with our surname)
Winter
Eleanor

#Boys
Buzz
Fox
Spike

WitchsFamiliarWhichIsFamiliar · 29/10/2021 10:15

Hippy, nature names like Maple and Star.

Lewis (put off by too many teachers saying naught boy name)
George, William and Henry - too popular

Clawdy · 29/10/2021 15:25

Fritha. Always loved it but it doesn't go with our surname, and is difficult for little ones to pronounce!

RestingStitchFace · 29/10/2021 21:51

Another vote for Clementine!

Love Scandi male names. Would have loved a Torston, Soren, Stellan etc.

DH also strongly vetoed my first two choices for boys - Lawrence and Seth.

GinUnicorn · 29/10/2021 21:57

I really liked Caspian for a boy and Bluebell for a girl - both vetoed

Rosiiiiie · 30/10/2021 03:50

@laurenGame lol is your hubby Aussie by any chance? My first used to drink Bellamy 😂

laurenGame · 30/10/2021 04:08

Yes ... I don't think we'll ever find a name 😩

PinkCheetah · 31/10/2021 21:06

Julia - it's pretty but was my DH's ex name 😂

BustyDusty · 01/11/2021 00:55

I have a Hunter. He loves his name and so do I.

Before settling on it, I was hanging out for Axel, Jethro, Sonny or Milton.

timestheyarechanging · 01/11/2021 01:27

Tadhg - pronounced 'Tige' love it - but couldn't give my son a lifetime of having to spell his name!

PlainJane1000 · 01/11/2021 05:04

I have always adored the name Francesca but I hate every shortened version of it and it's unrealistic to think a 3 syllable name won't be shortened. I also love Liliana but there are too many Lily's out there now.
For boys I love Matteo and Diego but am far to British to pull off either of them!

sageandbasil · 03/11/2021 18:59

I love Seraphena and Persephone. I'm pregnant now but too much of a wimp to use them
